Austin is 6 days old and my milk came in...hurt SO badly that I decided to pump. I got a full ounce all together (not sure if that's good/bad/fair) and he LOVED it, LOL. We are still FF him too, but I was wondering...I think I want to continue with pumping cause I know how good it is for him (and poor Char didn't get any cause I was so sick), plus I know it will help me to loose a little bit of weight anyway. I don't want to go to full out BF cause I DO have a 1y/o who REALLY does not appreciate having a brother, plus I want DH to be able to help, but any advice would be really great! How often should I pump, etc....Thanks so much!

It really depends how much BM you want to give but if I were in your shoes I'd find 1 or 2 times each day, pref in the morning when your boobs are fullest, and then just stick to that as a pumping routine. In time you'll get even more if you stick to the same times. I wen from half an ounce per sitting to 9oz!

Good luck! :D

To give only breast milk, you need to pump for 20 minutes each side, at least 10 times a day for the first few weeks. Once you have a full and established supply, you can decrease time gradually to 10 minutes each side, and down to possibly 6 sessions a day. It depends on the person, some can pump less, others like me need to pump more.

If you want to mix feed, there is more flexibility, just do it as an when you want to.
