I think I have finally decided i am going to FF LO when he/she comes. Up till now I always thought I was going to BF, but due to my OH not being in permanent employment at the moment (so I might had to return to work sooner than expected if he isnt working) and the fact that I now feel I wouldnt feel comfortable BF in front off ppl especially in public, I just feel maybe FF is a better option. Does this make me sound really selfish??

When did everyone else make this decision on whether to BF or FF, im not looking for reasons as I know it is a very personal decision, but I was just wondering if you knew from the start or was the decision made much later in your pregnancy.

Sorry if its a bit of a ramble but its been weighing on my mind recently.

I wanted to fully BF all along, it was only when she came and wouldn't stay on for longer than 10 mins, I had to top up with FF. So the decision was taken from me.
I now still do both and it works for us. She gets booby when she fancies it and FF at every meal. I guess she is more of a comfort sucker now. When we first started she'd have her ten mins on boob then bottle, but now she has mainly FF and boob whenever.

well all through my pregnancy i wasn't sure, i wanted to give bf-ing a go, and i did for three days, but no milk came in, and maddi was really hungry, so we switched to ff and never looked back, it really does suit us x

I have had the same thoughts. I tried to FF my first son but had to top up from the beginning so found it all quite stressful. I eventually gave up after 2-3 months and I have decided just to BF for the first 2 weeks or so for this baby and then switch over to FF. I have made a conscious decision not to feel guilty as a stressed mum is not good for any baby.

I was FF so when I fell pregnant I didn't even consider BF, I knew I wanted to FF too. I was made to doubt my decision because my OH was being a bit of an ass about it, but in the end I knew that FF was right for me.
Like you, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of doing it in public either, and I don't think it's selfish at all.

Luckily my OH is supportive either way although I think he would have liked me to try BF.

Anyone got any advice on bottles/ formula? Ive got the tommee tippee cold water steriliser at the moment so have two free bottles with that. Ive read some bad reviews bout the closer to nature bottles on here (which were the ones I was going to get).

Also ive heard that Aptamil is the closest formula to BF so was going to go with this but again there are alot of threads on here bout windy and sicky babies on Aptamil.

I use the CTN bottles and the tommee tippee cold water steriliser and never had any problems... Glad I chose them.
I use aptamil too, she was a windy baby, but I'm not sure if thats directly linked to the milk, I spoke to my HV and she told me not to change the milk because it's the closest to Breast milk, and she said it's one of the good ones to avoid constipation etc.

Thanx Candeur thats helped alot. Think im going to try the closer to nature bottles too, they are currently on offer in asda 6 bottles for a tenner.

Feeling much more postive now bout the whole thing

Phillips Avent are good as is there steriliser. I started off with tommee tippee and the sterliliser broke, so got avent and im so glad we did. I think the bottles make her less windy too. Thats just MO!

i chose to FF about half way through the pregnancy as i wanted my OH to bond with the baby as well as me and I have had a boob job and didnt want to risk passing on any infection or bacteria i may have in my breasticles due to this (or that my shirt potatoes would work at all)!

i use CTN bottles and TT steam sterilizer and i have had no problems at all (i have switched to variflow teats though so dont have to worry too much about moving up - she just chooses how much she wants)

You may change your mind when baby is here. You dont know how your going to feel. Keep an open mind but have everything you need just in case. Thats what I did. I BF exclusively for 5/6 weeks now do both.

Its not selfish at all hun! You do what you think is best for you and your lifestyle! I had planned on BF during my whole pregnancy up until my daughter was born! She wasn't latching on, I was getting extremely frustrated and felt awkward trying to BF around my inlaws so I kept thinking if I cant do it around them how will I ever do it in public! Honestly for me and my lifestyle FF was the best choice I made and I am glad I did it! You chose whatever works for you and don't feel bad with whatever choice you make

I considered both options, but thought about how uncomfortable i will actually feel with breastfeeding. Then i discussed it with my MW and she said that even though she should try convince me to breastfeed that if i know its not something i am going to be comfortable doing at all then dont do it. She said it is likely to just make me stress out trying to breatsfeed and that it would me being stressed and uncomfortable would also affect the baby and how they are likely to get on with breastfeeding. I thought about it alot but I now think I will formula feed, i just know i would not feel comfortable at all with breastfeeding. I just think i really couldn't do it. I felt bad about it for a while, but now i think it's for the best so formula it is for me. I know some people see it as the wrong choice but I know its the right one for me.

try and be open minded and have all the equipment you would need if you decide to FF x

i decided before he was born i wanted to try b-feeding and B-Fed Freddie exclusively for first 3 months, then started giving him a bottle of formula at bedtime xx last few weeks he seemed to go off the boob in the day, so gave him couple more bottles, now he wants the boob again, so im taking his lead!

I knew all along I wanted to FF. Myself and everyone in my family were FF so it was just the norm to me. I use CTN bottles and never had a problem with them
