I'm almost 24 weeks, and for the past few days, I've not felt nearly as frequent/nearly as strong movement from baby. I called my doctor yesterday because I was getting really worried. They squeezed me in for a scan, and he looked perfect. He was wiggling all over the place, and heart rate was good.

Today I have felt minimal movement again. She did tell me yesterday that he was definitely head down. Could the change in position make me feel his movement less? I have felt a few kicks off and on this afternoon, but just not as strongly as the past few weeks.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any thoughts or suggestions? I've tried all the "tricks" to make him move...cold drink, sugary snack, lay on left side, etc. I'm sure everything is fine, especially after the scan yesterday. But the lack of movement is still a bit unnerving!!!

I went through the exact same thing around 24 weeks. My little man was super busy and was having good strong kicks and then all of a sudden it slowed way down and just turned into small movements. My MW listened to his heartbeat with the doppler and said everything sounded good, but if I was still worried to give her a call. I booked a private scan for my own reassurance and discovered that he is head down. In the last few days the movement has increased again in strength. If in doubt, please go get checked... better safe than sorry. It is their job to make sure everything is okay.

Hi hun
My little man Harry slowed all his movements right down at 25 weeks scared me went to hospital to be monitored he had moved head down facing my back . It definitely makes the movements different at first they seem less but once baby gets a bit bigger 28 weeks I started to feel more again :)
It definitely makes a difference

Thank you, Caitlyn! That makes me feel better. The scan looked great yesterday, so I'm sure it's fine. It is just so reassuring to feel him kicking, and it makes me nervous when I don't. I'm thinking it is probably just the change in position, and as he puts on some more heft in the next few weeks, he will start back up strongly again.

I noticed that my lo had several days in a row where he was quiet for a few weeks from about 23 till just less than a week ago.
I think he went through a growth spurt and is now happily kicking me all the time and really strongly.

If you're worried then definitely call your midwife:flower: x

Thanks, emmi and Vicki!! I really appreciate the responses...it makes me feel better. : ) I'm sure he is just taking a little break. He has actually been squirming around a bit since I last posted.

I had this too for two weeks in second tri but I think they were round so they kicking the placenta.

I'm so glad I've seen this! I literally went in to see the midwife this evening as I have been worried about decreased fetal movement all day! The last week she has been rolling around and kicking like mad, but today I have barely felt anything. The sudden change in movement frequency unnerved me so I called and she said to go in but she wasn't concerned as I am only 24 weeks. She listened to the heartbeat, said it all sounded good and sent me home.
This thread has made me feel much better, I think baby has probably just changed positions.

It's meant to be during growth spurts that they may be a bit more sleepy!

I've definitely had what I thought were decreased movements but this evening he's been really strong.

Trying to put it down to him being in another position most of the day, and more sleeping.

I think also because I've felt him for a while now, maybe I'm kinda almost used to it?! Less of a shock maybe?!

But when he does kick now, he is really sharp, I find he wiggles more and I see my belly move side to side and the kicks he does now make me jump out I my skin, but I'd say the kicks are less frequent than wiggles!

Bear in mind baby is starting to get less swimming space inside there too!

I'm a bit confused by movements too. It took some time to feel my twins due to anterior placenta but all of a sudden I did after 20 weeks and quite strong. Twin 1 was moving more and gave some strong kicks which DH felt, and I would wonder that Twin 2 seemed more quiet. Now Twin 2 is kicking at all hours and I don't feel Twin 1 so often (though some movements I am at a loss to know which of the two it is). I was so happy to feel movement but it also comes with worries each time the pattern changes!

Remember technically you don't need to kick count until 28 weeks though obviously any change in movement is good to get checked out.

I went through the same thing at around 25 weeks. It's pretty unnerving but my little one is always head down too, so maybe that's a factor.

Both of mine have been moving quite a bit again, I've noticed twin A likes cold orange juice and that gets him kicking lol

I remember that happening with my first. Sometimes it's the position they're in. Sucks, and makes us worry, the little buggers, lol. It's good you got a scan in so you could be sure everything was A-Okay with baby :)
