You only need to give gradually if they're a different "family" of formulas. (switching from milk-based ot soy-based, for example) The ingredients for NB and AR look similar enough that it shouldn't cause a huge problem to switch.
I agree with just switching- when we tried mixing them int he same bottle, my LO would NOT touch it.
