Development

Just been googling around, reading about development, and got this on babycenter for a 3 week old:

Your baby's almost a month old already! How did that happen? Time flies when you're growing. By the end of this week, your baby may be able to lift his head briefly when he's lying on his tummy. He may also be able to turn his head from side to side. His leg and arm movements are less jerky and, as he gains more control of his muscles, he'll soon be much more co-ordinated.

Although you can't be sure yet, your baby's probably beginning to develop some eating and sleeping patterns. Still, expect a certain amount of change and unpredictability for another month or so.

Your baby likes bold lines and shapes. Hang up a mobile with high-contrast patterns or picture books with strong line drawings.

Jack's been lifting his head up from day 3-4, moving his head from side to side since he reached 1 week... the hell is going on with my baby? He also lost none of his birth weight, went from 7lb 15oz to 8lb 13oz in about a week an a half, and has been trying to shuffel up me and Dan when we put him on our chest, and turning himself onto his side... this is going way too fast

Reckon he'll slow down a bit soon? No wonder he's guzzling the amount of formula he does

I remember Finn lifting his head down on neonatal, he was only days old. I can lift it a long time now. He's a strong little bugger. I think its BF babies that lose weight, Finn did but it might be the hospital were plonkers, he put loads on when he got home and I could feed him like I wanted. I say enjoy your advanced lil baba :D

hehe leylas like this too, minutes after she was born she was being held by OHs mam and she was pushing her with her legs trying to get away haha

think she was on to something

x

Max could hold his head at 3 days old too and now everything he does is about 2 months ahead of his time :) its quite normal

forumla fed babies tend not to loose weight so much as breast fed babies do but i am right there with you on the head thing, Lucas is really going for it too, he can hold his head up very briefly when on his tummy........

maybe these march babies are super babes!!!

Patrick was like this and hes still going way to fast according to everything you read!

Yaaaay :D didn't want to ask midwife incase she thought I was nuts :dohh: normally people worry their babies aren't developing quick enough, I'm so worried incase I'm missing too much with Dan doing the majority still, tum's still a bit tender and couldn't pick him up the first week!

i remember the midwife picking fin up and laughing 'well look at you, supporting your own head!'.... he was exactly the same... it's so weird..... some aspects will develop much quicker and some will be slower than other babies. xx

alfie held his head up when i was still in the delivery suite. when i lay him on his belly at a few days old he was holding his head up for a few seconds.

Then at 18 days old he rolled from his front to his back :happydance: i thought it was just a one off but he has carried on doing it.

He now hold his head up for ages and looks around also its not going to be long before he is rolling the other way. he only lost 1oz of his birth weight as he is BF :)

But on the other hand he quite isnt smiling as good as i wish and only does it 1-2 times a day so development is a strange thing.
