I've always really loved the name Dexter, and I'm really considering it if I have a boy, but in the past, people have laughed at it, and said that he'd be mocked for it. I've always really liked it, and I think I'm managing to bring my boyfriend round too :) What do you think? xx

I really like Dexter and if you like it, go for it! I'm not sure why people would laugh at it though...? Oh well, at least you know they won't take the name ;)

probably they laugh bc it reminds them of the cartoon (Dexter in his lab and his sister DeeDee)

personally i'd have an issue with the name bc kids can call him pointdexter

we're having a battle trying to 'win' this name off my brother inlaw and his gf (who aren't yet pregnant), so this name is really popular i think!!!! i think if kids want to call a kid cause of a name they'll do it with any name!!! my so cried the other day cause someone called him Lewis Poois!!! lol
ignore other ppl, its a great name! xx

Its not a name that Id use but I do like it iykwim. I think its becoming more popular due to Charlotte Church calling her son Dexter, so I dont think that he'd be mocked for it . xx

I like Dexter, the only thing I think of Dexter Fletcher when I hear it and he was in Press Gang.....I'm showing my age here!

I think it's cute, it is becoming quite popular too so I don't think he'd be mocked for it hun x

LOVE LOVE LOVE it :) My cousin called her son Dexter, he's in his mid twenties now and it really suits him, great name choice, ignore others and go with what you like :) xXx

I've seen the name Dexter alot on this site -- it seems to be a popular & well liked name on here. Personally, i don't like it but that's just my opinion. I think in the US the name might get teased. It also makes me think of poindexter, which is a reference to someone "nerdy".

I like it but agree with others that it is getting very popular. I don't think you would be teased for having this name (at least in the UK).

Dex sounds quite manly (remember Dex off Dynasty - although that was his surname!)

Basically, there are always going to be people who don't like the name and people who will make fun of it, no matter what name you pick. The most important thing is that you and your OH like it.

When I had my eldest I was told by loads of people not to call him Damien - which myself & OH liked - but his mother being a catholic insisted we couldn't call him that. Now he is 16 and he wants to change his name to Damien!

I was gonna call Jude Dexter at one point, its a really lovely name, dont worry about it getting mocked its definitely becoming more popular, and the only thing i can think of is Dexters lab but is that even on tv anymore? lol

I don't know where you are from, but here in the US there is a show called Dexter. Dexter is a serial killer. For that reason I wouldn't name my baby that!
