One of the things bothering me most is the thought of not being able to have the first hold/not being able to hold my baby for a while after she's born. Maybe i'm being hormonal and it doesn't matter if you have to wait half hour but is there any circumstance where they do pass you the baby right away after a section?

I held my son about 5 minutes after pulling him out right after the stitched me up

With my twins, I wasn't allowed to have them until the next day and I was devastated. This time, I am hoping so badly to be able to have baby as soon as possible.

I didn't hold her for about 45 minutes after she was born, they took her to get checked by the dr and then gave her straight to my husband who sat next to me with her whilst I was being stitched.

To be honest with the little space between me and the sheet that stops you seeing everything I was just glad that her daddy had her. Plus she was big (just over 10lb) + I had the shakes and was weak from being in labour so long before they gave me my emcs.

Baby still latched right away though + although I'm sad that I didn't getto hold her right away I'm making up for it now :)

Xx

Google natural cesarean, as long as you make sure everyone knows what you want it shouldn't be a problem :)

I had a natural section and she was delivered onto my chest. She stayed there for a while before I was stitched up.

Hey there, I did with my youngest two. I have 5, the first emcs, the rest elcs. The first time I was asleep and baby in scbu. The 2nd/3rd times hosptial didn't like the idea of it while the surgeaon was busy. However, they soon changed the policy when it was essential for them to encourage mothers to breastfeed so now allow immediate skin to skin contact to try increase the rates. And it is the best feeling in the world.

Make sure you tell your midwife you want skin to skin contact as soon as baby is born. They are usually all for it even if the surgeons don't like it to happen. Why should we miss out just because our little treasures need to be delivered by c section.

I was given the option to have him put on my chest when they pulled him out, but I opted to wait until he was cleaned up and swaddled. It was actually really cool to hear him screaming his head off for the first minute or so before I saw him. The anesthesiologist assistant took pics as he came out though, so I kind of had a peek. Then my husband put him next to me while they finished stiching me so they could take a picture. My arms were both tied down with IVs and monitors, so I couldn't actually hold him, but it was fine. Daddy held him while they finished up. Then they put him in my arms when they wheeled me to my room. It was really just fine and I was very happy. It was a pretty smooth operation actually.

Before my DD was born, I was so adamant that I be the first to hold her, etc. But after 2 1/2 days of a failed induction, I went in for a Section. I knew going in at that point that I probably would not get to hold her straight away, so I asked that she be passed to my DH as soon as possible, which is what happened. Even though I was woozy from the anesthesia and had the shakes really bad, I will never forget the look of love and adoration on his face when they placed her in his arms:cloud9:---that is probably one of the most precious moments of my life that I will carry with me always, and totally made up for me not being able to hold her first.

As soon as they stitched me up, though, she was all mine. :flower:

This post made me well up.

Im opting for hubby to hold her first, when he can, then il have some skin to skin time in recovery.

thank you so much for mentioning Natural Cesarean. I am going to ask about this when i see my consultant next week if i get the go ahead for my elective section :) I did not know that you really had a choice about how things went if you had a section. xx

Didn't even know there was such thing as a natural c-section, I would love to experience this.

I looked up natural section, defo not for me.

I was handed my son within a minute of him being out. They showed him to me first then they cleaned him up a bit and wrapped him in a blanket and handed him to me. My DH had our camera and took a photo of me holding him for the first time.

Can relate with amberlys post I had induction lasted 3 days before was took for forceps vontouse and then c section but my spinal block wore off as they pulled her out and unlike epidural they cant top it up so was given anthetimins cant spell and high dose of morphine I was out of with while swearing with pain as felt every stich and them pulling placenta out !!

Although it was over hour and half before I met are supprise looking at other half crying over our baby we enjoyed looking and dicussing what gender we thought she was as was supprise till we looked together after I was out theatre

Though I was second and wanted to be first that was still best moment Ever xx

I held him straight away he was put on my chest still covered in vernix and the midwife helped him to latch on while I was being stiched up. I also had him bundled on me whilst being wheeled to recovery it was a great experience through and through, the only downside was because I was numb to my chest I couldn't feel him or hold him properly and the midwife had to do most of the work to help me breast feed because I couldn't feel my boob lol x

Nope. Not for 3 hours. I had an EMCS and was having a panic attack so they sedated me and I was too drugged. :(

I just had my son via csection on the 11th. This time I was able to have him in recovery. I was able to see him as soon as he was born and DH got him for a few minutes while they finished closing me up. We had a much better experience this time.

I did, I nursed her while they stitched me up. its imporant to talk to the doctor about this before hand, they cant read ur minds, so if you want too ask. They may say no, but if you ask they may work with you. The biggest issue is they like to have your arms strapped incase they need to adminster extra medication or if something happens.

You have a lot of choices, and you can tell a doctor that you do not consent to any procedure you dont like. You just have to say " I DO NOT CONSENT"
