Hi ladies! :flower:
I have been reading posts on here recently about why did you choose to formula feed & noticed that a lot of ladies formula feed because they had problems breastfeeding. I think i was the only one who who put that i chose to formula feed from the beginning. I was wondering if there are any others like me lurking out there? and if so how many? BTW, my heart goes out to the mummies that wanted to breastfeed & needed to switch.

I initially planned to breast feed until Abi was at least 6 months but after feeding her myself for 3 weeks she'd lost nearly 10% of her body weight and hadn't regained it, after being advised to top up with formula she then started suffering from bad colic and severe green mucous diarrhoea after trying Comfort milk which did nothing and a trip to the docs she was diagnosed with lactose intolerance and given prescription milk, i persevered with combination feeding until she was 8 wks old trying to cut dairy out of my diet but its hidden in everything and every time I missed it and ate something bad she suffered so I gave up for her benefit.

I know another member on here who chose to FF from the start for her own reasons, I won't name names etc . . . I planned to combi feed as I was returning to work very shortly after LO was born and knew it was unrealistic that I was, personally, going to be able to BF when I did. I just wanted to reply as my vote isn't really on there, I had all the FF stuff ready etc for when it was time and knew I would be doing it, just after BF then combi feeding. :flower:

i was very laid back in that i would give bf a go but if not the formula i didnt give bf my best shot though so i was prepared to do formula! there are lots of girls on here though that chose to formula feed from the start!

I think there are quite a few who chose to FF from the start, or would have if they hadn't been made to try BFing. I personally wanted to BF but LO refused to latch xx

I knew i'd miss something on the poll! :dohh:

I went all through pregnancy being adamant I would FF from the start but ended up combi-feeding for about 2wk (more bottle though)

I intended to BF, but don't make enough milk. I do make enough that I can combo feed.

I wanted to BF but was very casual about it and determined that if I couldn't manage it I wasn't going to get stressed out and would go to FF, as it was I BF'd for 2 days but then got put on a number of medications due to complications after the c-section so wasn't allowed to BF anyway.
I have never had any hang ups with FF, just wanted to give BF a go really!! Plus am so happy that my husband could feed LO too, especially when I was in hospital and feeling crappy!!!

I wanted to BF but was prepared for both. I didnt have any milk to BF & DS couldnt latch on. Tried expressing but I didnt get a single drop. So he was FF from day 1. I kept trying for one month but no success as there was no milk even after he latched on at week 3.

I planned to FF frm the start, ended up pumping for a month xx

Sorry to but in, just having a nosey in here. How did midwives and docs etc respond to those planning on ff from the start?

I formula fed from birth. I was really worried about the midwives at the hospital trying to get me to bf but they didn't mention it at all.

It wasnt a problem and i wasnt pressured by anybody. x

I decided to FF from the start, had no intentions of BF

I FF from the start too.......Never intended to BF at all.

MW and docs in the hospital were lovely. BF was never mentioned at all

i wanted to BF but always said if i couldnt do it i would FF, for the first 2 days he would not latch on and literally screamed for a whole day and night the midwife on the ward was so supportive tho and kept me going eventually he took to it but then fed every hour for 9 weeks and never slept at all! I ended up giving in and switching to FF after the hardest 9 weeks of my life and as soon as i did he was like a different baby and after a week or so started to sleep through the night and i got my sanity back! I did feel like a failure as i wanted to do it until 6 months but now looking back i wish id done it sooner! I think babies are generally a lot happier and content with FF!!! Dont know how i coped and if i was to have another think i would consider FF from the start x

i had every intention to BF for a year. I got to 4 months and then combination ef for 1 month and now soley FF.

I feel bad about it and i think thats because i set myself a goal and didnt make that goal. i know i should instead be proud of what i did manage with low supply problems. Right now im just happy my little man is putting on weight and sleeping properly again.
