My 20WK scan left me feeling very bruised because my bladder was empty even though I had drank shit loads!

I'm worrying that my 4D scan is going to leave me the same way. I didn't enjoy my 20WK scan much. :dohh:

Aww i hope the 4D scan goes better for you and isn't as uncomfortable feeling :hugs:. Did you find out the sex @ your 20 wk scan? Or you keeping it a surprise, hun? :D

My hospital wouldn't tell me but I'll be finding out at my 4D scan. Makes it all that more exciting :D Can't wait!

oh that is fabulous news then!!! Just 1 more week! hope your little bean cooperates and shows off his/her bits :happydance:

awww i'd be bummed about the hospital not telling, but yay at least you get to find out and with a 4d scan! how did it leave you bruised? were they just pushing hard?:hugs::headspin:

They were pushing hard and I was laying on my side because my bladder was empty. I was definately bummed about the whole sex thing, it upset me quite alot. My mum had me and my sister at that hospital and she was offered the chance to know what we were, so I kind of expected to be told. Was right annoyed when the midwife told me they weren't going to tell me at the scan!

My 22 wks scan was quite painful as well... The women was pushing really hard on my lower stomach + she even tap/shook it because the baby was sleepy ! Very bad experience!

I'm sure your 4d one will be great! ENJOY !!!!! :happydance:

My 20 week hurt! I had two, the first one they scheduled me at 16 weeks! And I drank my water too close to the appt time, like I was drinking it in the waiting room and you were supposed to be done an hour before... :dohh: And he pressed hard cause my bladder wasn't full at all. The 2nd one, done actually at 20 weeks, hurt a little, when he would be pressing against the baby. Like where she was sticking out a little already, he pressed with a bit of pressure still, and hurt since she was pressing from the inside.

I hope your 4d scan goes good, and doesn't hurt!! How exciting to see baby again, and to know the sex!!! Good luck!

Mine didn't hurt, sorry you went through that hun, hope your 4D scan goes well

My 4D scan didn't hurt at all, but neither did my 20 week scan.. You will be so taken back with whats going on on the screen that you probably won't feel anything !! lol

my 12 week scan wasnt most comfy - i was amazed at the presure she applied...so if i drink water an hour before it should help?
I also drank in teh waiting room...bit late maybe?
No one told me to drink water first..

I was just thinking about the water thing myself! No-one has told me I have to drink lots of water first - were you all told this when they gave you the appt? At my 12 week scan I wasn´t told to drink anything before hand, my doc pressed down a bit, but it didn´t hurt - I think if I´d had a full bladder when she´d pressed I would have peed myself!

Thinking about it though my bladder would have been partly empty anyway, cos I always have to have a blood test and give a urine sample before I see the doc at every appt.

tor my 16 wk one had to go in the front door, not pleasant. i dont find they hurt just not comfortable and quiet gooey. if the guy is hurting you i would tell them, they might be able to be a bit more gentle. i thought after the early scans you dont need a full bladder. they have never told me to drink.

I was going to post a thread actually asking whether you need to drink the 1 and a half pints of water an hour before appointment at your 20 week scan! I haven't received a letter informing you of what to do, they just gave me the appt at my 12 week scan.

I was told at my 12 week scan i had a very full bladder, i was nearly peeing myself! but it didn't hurt.

My 20 weeks scan hurt a lot, but the lady had to press down with one hand on my stomach and pressed the plastic thingy quite hard in my belly coz junior just wouldnt keep still. I was BURSTING for the loo as well the whole time, which didnt really help!

Hopefully you'll have a nicer experience at your 4D one with it being a private scan.

Mine didn't hurt, so I'm not expecting my 4D scan to hurt at all.
I never had to have my bladder full though, and I always got good scans. Do they always have you go with your bladder full?????

I didn't think either of my scans hurt that much to be honest, if anything.. a little uncomfortable BUT when I went to my midwife/doctor appointments, I found that the doppler hurt me a fair bit and I would always be sick when I got home.

They usually tell you to. There was more emphasis on the first scan though to have a full bladder.

Mine didnt hurt at all....The ultrasound tech actually told me to go and pee because my bladder was too full for a scan...weird..

Mine moaned because my bladder was empty and then told me to lay on my side. I did get a letter telling me I had to drink before hand, and I did? My 12 week scan was fine, and my bladder was full. So I dunno if it was a bladder thing but I felt so bruised after my 20 week :(
