I am scheduled to deliver my baby girl via c section July 19th. This is my first surgery ever and I am unsure what to expect. I am trying not to be scared but this is all so new to me. Just wondering what the numbness in your legs felt like>

No Hun the numbness didn't frighten me. It wears off pretty quickly so for me by the time I was leaving recovery although I couldn't have stood up I could brace my legs to shimmy up the bed or whatever. It's not so bad. One thing that did freak me out (not sure they do the same everywhere but just in case) they sprayed cold air up my legs and over my bump to make sure it was numb. I could still feel it all the way up so I was terrified I'd feel them cutting me (even though they said over and over its ok to feel it as long as it doesn't feel cold) that frightened me. But they were right! I couldn't feel it.

I had the same worrie, when i found out i was having an ECS. Your more interested in getting the little one out and the operation going on then the numbness. Yes its strange that you can move your body but cant feel it, but its not as bad as you think.

Your legs just feel like you had them crossed to long and they are numb.

Littlepixie was also correct, cant feel anything. When it was happening i could feel something but i was totally wrong. What i thought was them wiping my tummy down with a swob was them cutting me open, so there is no pain what so ever.

Gl with ur CS and take your time with healilng :D

I had this too! They thought they were going to have to do ga but then they said "can you feel that?" I asked what and she told me the surgeon was poking my stomach!

The numbness is fine and to be honest kinda the last thing you're even thinking about, the nurses and doctors all talk to you and keep your mind occupied and help raise the mood when you're anxious!

Xxx

I was exactly the same! I actually said to them that I was starting to panic because it hasn't worked because I could still feel stuff. The nurse told me to put my hand on my stomach and pinch really hard, she was right, it was numb as anything. It is a very strange feeling.

I was also like lil_pixie, the spinal wore off pretty quick and by the time I got back to the ward, the nurses were all commenting on how much movement I had in my legs.

I wasn't frightened or anything but it freaked me out a little....when I was lying there, cover was up then next min I could see my foot :haha: I was like OMG. I don't know what they were doing with it up above their heads but it made me laugh.

I worried a little when they did the spray thing too and she was like 'can you feel that' and I thought about it a second and for some reason couldn't figure out if I could or not. Then I worried about feeling them open me up. The worry was for nothing though, I didn't feel a thing.

I tell you what though, its the best feeling when it wears off and you can wiggle your toes again!!

Best feeling in the world for me! I absolutely detest having a cathater most uncomfortable thing in the world! So wen that numbness hit and started spreading it was instant relief! I'm a big baby wen it comes to things like that but really it was pretty weird but really awesome! I ended up with an emcs due to being in labor for 12 hrs and not progressing at all. So by that time I was tired, sore and pretty much over it and just wanted her out!

I didn't feel my catheter at all!

Lucky! It was the worse feeling in ever wen they put it in! Completely freaked out! Next time I'm asking them to put it in once I've had the epi!!!!

I had a catheter a few weeks ago for what I thought was my water breaking. I have never felt such excruciating pain in my life. This time I really hope I am completley numb beforehand.

I hated my catheter too!!! It was put in shortly after being made numb so couldn't feel that but when it wore off... Ughh. I felt as though I had a water infection (it was that type of irritation) and I'm positive it wasn't in properly, I think I pulled it out when I moved. But the mw was telling me 'nope it's fine' then when I asked for it to be taken out she said I'd need to go for a wee within the next 12 hours. Well as she was taking it out I needed a wee. She didn't believe me!! Said the catheter would have taken everything in my bladder. But I basically demanded to walk to the toilet, was given a pan to pee in and I honestly almost filled it!! She still didn't admit that the catheter had come out. All I got was 'oh so you did need a wee after all' - no shit!!

It didn't worry me at all, as the nurses & anethesist were very good at explaining what was happening & advising how long it would last for (3 hours until it completely wore off).

The only thing I remember thinking was how horrible & scary t would be to wake up from a car accident & have no feeling at all (you have no feeling from below your boobs down to your toes) & thankful that it was only temporary as it is a very weird feeling to be trying to move & not be able to at all.

The catheter did not bother me at all, they put it in when I was numb & I did not feel it at all the whole time it was in. It only really tickled in a weird was when they removed it.

I had n EMCS due to m daughter getting stuck in the birth canal. I was wheeled to theatre having having intense contraptions on top of each other so the hardest part for me was sitting still while they injected my spinal. I have never felt such relief as when I could feel the spinal running down my legs! They must have dosed me up more then normal as I was totally numb from my arm pits down and didn't get any feeling back in my legs for 12 hours or more.

People say they don't feel pain only pushing and pulling, I felt nothing at all as in not a thing. At one point I saw my foot above the curtain, it was so surreal!!

The worst part was I was stuck in recovery for 2 hours post-op waiting for the drugs to start to retract down my body.

You will be fine. When the day comes all you will be thinking of is meeting your shinny new baby xx

They have you laying down quickly so I didn't even notice. I didn't feel anything at all even pressure they said I would. I was surprised when they said Baby A was coming as I didn't think they had even started.

It didn't bother me at all. The worst part about having to have an epidural to me was the whole catheter thing. It really hurt once I got the feeling back in my legs (the next day). The numbness though definitely didn't freak me out. I felt a lot better after I was given my epidural and I was able to "relax" (somewhat). Wasn't really relaxing though - was so nervous. Hope everything goes well and stay calm.

...Wow after reading most of your ladies responses, I am so happy to hear you all hated the catheter as much as I did. I thought it was seriously only me because I never really hear about women complaining about the pain from the catheter. I'm not happy because we all had the pain, but to know I'm not alone. :)
