Mine gushed after I heard them pop! Then it was a continuous trickle and occasiOnal gushes I actually loved it because I'd always had them broken before!
I had a high leak so mine began as a trickle. There was some meconium in it, so the doctors broke my fore waters. After I delivered him, the hind waters went in a HUGE gush -- but I was very likely polyhydraminous (excess fluid).
I heard a big pop and gushed everywhere. I used up 4 maternity pads in one go and by the time I arrived at the hospital they were soaked. I didn't think it was possible for there to be that much water as I didn't have a big bump.
With my second child (just recently gave birth), my water broke in gush before the baby came . I did not have to do any pushing this time around because She came out like a waterslide. Probably because she is so small.
Definitely gushed. And continued to gush every time I got up until I had him the next day. I went through the half dozen pads I had before resorting to using the cloth diaper inserts I had bought for baby! They are indeed absorbent
