Did you have HSG on your own?

I have my HSG on 13th May - but my DH will not cope with being in there with me, he's very squeamish and would not cope seeing me have that done (even thought there is no blood or anything he has a very weak stomach lol)

He's coming with me but will wait outside the room so my question is would you recommend having someone in with you or was it fine on your own? What did you do? x

I went on my own, drove had it done went back to work. It never entered my head to get somebody to go with me any more than I'd take somebody for me to have a smear test.
TBH I'm not even sure they would allow anybody else in the room with you anyway. Because of the xrays, all of the staff wore lead aprons.

There were 4 ladies in the room. One doing the dye, One observing the monitor, one may have been operating the Xray machine and but I'm not sure nor am I sure what the 4th was doing.

I was given 2 hospital gowns one on frontward, one backward so you are kept covered. Only the lady at the business end saw anything and she will have seen a whole lot more "hoofs" than yours and she'll have seen every "hair do possible"

i'm not fussed about who see's what or anything like that, i was thinking more along the lines of if i see a problem on screen while they are doing it (and will insist the tell me as they go along what they see) - the moral support side of things if it's not good news. I think i will just go it alone anyway was just curious to see what others did

I was on my own, it was fine to be honest, but initially I asked if I could have my MIL in with me, but was told no-one could be with me :( Maybe depends on the country/hospital XXX

One of the ladies was placed between me and the screen. I'm not 100% sure if she was their to watch the screen or stop me seeing it or a combination of both but either way I'm sure it was a deliberate ploy to stop me seeing.
Exactly the same when you go for a pregnancy scan, they have a good look make sure all is fine before they let you see.

I was told all was fine just after the test but told the radiographer will have another look through the pictures before writing her report.

Re moral support. Think of it this way at the moment you have a problem getting that BFP. This might show what the problem is, if they find both tubes are blocked then you know what's stopping you getting that BFP so its go down the IVF route. If neither or only one is blocked then clomid or IUI might solve the problem.

Either way it's a step in the right direction. I notice you have short cycles that could be causing your problems. I have the opposite problem long, irregular cycles anything up to 12 weeks is normal.

I didn't think they would allow people in the room who aren't necessary because of the radiation regardless of country / hospital. But there is nothing to stop somebody accompanying the poster to / from the hospital.

I'll be going it alone regardless now. I was told by new FS (one that i'm switching to after this) to insist they give me a blow by blow account of what they see as they go along and that i want to see to screen! My next appointment is 6 weeks after procedure and i can't wait that long for results!

I agree that my short cycles and chronic spotting are the issue - 10 day LP as a general rule for me but my FS won't give me clomid or any meds as i O on my own - hence why i'm switching after HSG! Spoke to another FS and they will give me clomid. I used Soy isoflavones this cycle on just 80mg and got a 13 day lp with no spotting til the final day! So i know for sure clomid would solve the problem (assuming my HSG comes back clear) IVf and IuI i will have to pay or out of my pocket and i can't afford to do that so i have everything crossed on a clear HSG and hope for the best!

I had a hycosy which is done in the same way but without X-rays so no radiation risk but I went in on my own - unfortunately my husband was out of the country with work so I had no other option. It was fine though xx

My husband wasnt allowed in with me. I had to go in alone :) My hospital just said i needed someone to take me home but all hospitals are different xx

I'm the same about to look at other options. I had my HSG on the NHS but my next appointment isn't until mid July and I have neither the time or the patience to wait that long to get clomid.
The NHS would fund clomid or IUI for me but I have ran out of paticence. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for the privlage of somebody looking up my hoof.
I tried soys this cycle too, and had some spotting which I can't decide if it was the HSG or the soy.

My husband was able to come in the room with me. They gave him an apron thing to protect from radiation (it was flowered - he looked like he was ready to garden or cook at a luau or something) and they had him sit by my head so he wouldn't see what the doctor was doing. I was actually not planning to have him come in, but the nurses encouraged it and said that it's really nice having someone in the room with me.

Also, they made sure that both of us had a clear view of the screen and the doctor talked us through what we were seeing the whole time.

So yes - these things totally depend on the hospital, but that was my experience. I liked having him in the room, both to calm my nerves and to be there to hear what the doctor was saying.

thanks for sharing your experiences girls it really does help to have a 'heads up' of what goes on :flower: Not too worried about the procedure (might change when the day comes lol) I fret about the finer details rather then big ones lol x
