Did you name your child before they were born?

Did you refer to your bump by that name before you had him/her (or are you currently doing this)? ie: Here are the ultrasound pictures of Emily.

Or did you wait until they were born to chose their name?

Maybe you had a short list of names and weren't quite decided?

Or maybe you came up with the name on the spot?

My first daughter had a name before she was born.
My second, we had a name and then decided against it when she was born, she didnt have a name for a week!
My third, we had 99% decided on his name before he arrived.
My fourth we had a choice of 3 names, and my husband chose from those after he was born. Sonny
My fifth we had already had picked out a girls name from number 3, and we always said that if we had a girl we'd call her Evie.
My sixth, we have a choice of 5 that we cannot agree on so we are going to wait until she arrives...

Niamh was Sophie all through my pregnancy. I had signatures made up with the name Sophie, and we referred to my bump as Sophie. Our family called her Sophie, etc.

It was quite strange to come up with a totally different name at 37 weeks and although we didn't tell anyone, OH and I started referring to her as Niamh. She suits Niamh a lot better than Sophie :)

i knew even before i knew she was a girl that if she was a girl she would be luisa

wen we found out at 20 weeks that she was indeed a girl we decided that her name would be luisa elizabeth nicole.. but then wen my grandmother died wen i was 32 weeks we decided we would change it to luisa nicole pierina (pierina being my grandmothers name)

close family knew she was going to be called luisa but only our parents knew all the names..

as far as using the name.. wen we had our 4d ultra sound at 27 weeks i put pics on facebook and they were labled baby kell (oh surname)
but wen people talked about bump she was always baby luisa or luisa bump lol

its one thing im really glad i did as last christmas my grandmother gave me her present for luisa (some family jewlery) and on the gift tag she wrote to my darling great granddaughter luisa i will always love you love your great grandma(but in italian) she gave it to me before she was born as she was termilly ill and was scared she wouldnt live to see her born- which she didnt.. im so pleased she got to see her great grandaughter on the 4d scan and knew her name and that i have something for luisa wen she grows up..

sorry ive rambled and made myself cry!

xx

Me and OH had picked a boy, and girls name before our 20 week scan. We found out we were having a girl, and have refered to her by this name through my pregnancy. family now refer to her by name as well.
Just cant wait to meet her now

:hugs:You've made me cry reading your story of your daughters name . You sound like you loved your nan a lot, and like you say, its beautiful that she got to see your daughter on the scan. I want to name this baby after both my nans -Madeleine May, one of which is no longer with us , your story has made me all the more determined to get my way :winkwink:.

this is my first so i havent had the chance to live this process yet but we are planning on short listing and then choosing the name after the baby is born.

Joseph was actually Joshua for most of the pregnancy until someone else called their baby Joshua a week before he was due. We had a short list of Theo, Toby and Joseph, we didn't name him until he was about 3 hours old in the end, we nearly called him Theo but decided he suited Joseph better x

We named Ruby at 20 weeks...but it was our fave girl's name from earlier than that.

We referred to her as Ruby to ourselves, but didn't intend to tell anyone else. However OH blurted it out accidentally...my mum, her partner, my auntie and uncle were all there so it wasn't much of a secret after that, doh.

Alexa was named at our 22 week ultrasound, when she was confirmed a girl! There was no going back!

I had a list of potential names but OH would only agree on Adam and Elliott. We couldn't choose between them and not long after we found out he was a boy, at 21 weeks, I got in the habit of referring to him as "Adam Elliott", even though we definitely hadn't decided that'd be his name - I kind of wanted to keep Elliott for another baby, not "waste" it as a middle name. In the end I couldn't drop it, it was part of my baby's identity to me. I didn't commit to his name, so far as everyone else was concerned, I told them we'd decide when we met him, but I knew by 30 or so weeks that we wouldn't be changing it but I wanted to keep my options open. And I didn't want other people referring to him by his name before he was born, just me, my OH and my mum did. Now we call him just Adam, but I think of him always as Adam Elliott. :)

BTW Elyse didn't have a name the whole time I was pregnant.. I had some in mind and OH & I did talk about it, but she was named on the operating table :)

With DD#1 we didn't really have a boy name picked out, but had a girl name picked out immediately - before we even conceived. Once we found out that she was a girl, we called her by name.

With DD#2 I had a boy name but DH wouldn't pick out a girl name until we knew whether or not she was a girl or a boy. Once we found out, it took about 2 weeks to come up with her name, and from that point on we did refer to her by name but we didn't tell anyone what we were having so she was just "the baby" around other people.

Before we found out he was a boy we both liked thomas edward but then when we found out he was a boy my OH suggested connor and that was it because we both loved it and from beginning we had said we would have edward as middle name if it was a boy after my grandad

Me and OH still haven't decided on a name. Really struggling to! I personally don't want everyone to refer to bump as a name incase we change our mind at the last minute, and then have to go round telling everyone it's actually a different name. At the minute we have a short list, we'll decide from that when LO is born I think xx

once we found out we were having a boy, we talked about names, and Picked it!!! since that day he was referred as George and not bump xxxxxxxx

With my dd we had a list of boys names but i was sure she would be Joshua... (we were convinced we were having a boy as there hadn't been a girl born in dh's family for 88 years!) We decided on Sophie straight after she was born because i said i liked it, dh liked it, my mum liked it and my auntie (who was on the phone to my mum at the time liked it!)

This time we know we are having a boy and we are really struggling! He's fidget for now and we're hoping when he's born we'll get some inspiration!

I love reading everyone's stories! I had the hardest time choosing a name when i was pregnant with my son! I had a list of baby names for like 10 years, but then when the time finally came... i no longer wanted any of them!!!! I was sure i was having a girl so first i said Madison, then i said Arianna, then i had a dream that i named the baby Abrielle! But at my 20 week scan i found out i was having a boy! I had decided on Tyler so all my shower cards from people called the baby Tyler... but then i changed my mind and decided on Gavin!!!!! After my son was born, my mom said she hated the name Gavin and begged me to pick another name from my list! So... i ended up with Jayden Christopher!!!!!! I found naming the baby to be such a huge responsibility and spent many sleepless nights thinking of baby names!!!

With Kieran , we had finalised it down to 2 names Kieran and Jake, we decided we were going wait til he was born to decide, after he was born, i was cuddling him and just said hello Kieran:cloud9: It just seemed to suit him...best part OH caught it on the video camera:cloud9::cloud9:

Paige was a whole different story!! lol, we couldn't agree on any names, i went into the birth not having a clue, the only one i sorted like was one of OH's, in the end i had no other choice and Paige it was :) All i can say is its grown on me lol

Kieran was known as bump, Paige was flump, next one will be Lump:lol:
we will definatly not have the issue of naming next baby beforehand because we are not finding out the sex:) We will have 2 choices hopefully for both sexes....and if we can't agree i will get my way this time :haha:
