did you throw a first birthday party for your LO??

Yes we hired out a local soft play hall just for our families which are both very big and lots of kids. We didn't really have to prepare anything as the food and games were all provided. It was fun! I think whatever you do will be special and memorable, I don't think a party is essential so long as lo is happy :)

Nope, didn't throw a 2nd or 3rd birthday party either. Might have to do one for his 4th though as he's starting to catch on.

Yes, we had a tea party for the children in the family.

I threw a big cook out pool party.. friends and family. It was so stressful, but she loved running around after all the other kids! I think next time I would tone it down though.

We had people round for a BBQ. It was really more for the adults than the kids. What you're planning sounds lovely :)

Yes! We had a party at the house, with 18 babies/young kids and family. :happydance:

I voted 'yes'.

We actually had 2 parties for him. I live in another country than my parents, so about 3 weeks before his first birthday I visited my parents and we had a party (with mostly my friends/family, only 2 other children) with lunch, cake, balloons, and presents for my LO. Approx. 20 people total.

On his actual birthday, we invited family and friends (including about 10 other kids) and had a party all afternoon/evening. We had a BBQ in our back yard, had a little pool set up and some toys out for the kids. My LO was napping for the first couple of hours but then we brought him down, gave him a cupcake and he opened gifts and played with the other kids. There were about 40 people who came to this one.

I thought it was fun to throw my LO a party, and he enjoyed all the attention and opening the gifts. That being said he remembers absolutely nothing of it now so it was really more for me (and the pictures!) than for him :) He's turning 2 in a few weeks and we're doing something similar again, inviting about 50 people (including about 15 other kids) and will have different 'play stations' set up outside where kids can either slide, play in a ball pit, blow some bubbles, or colour some pictures.

Aside from all of the people coming, it's relatively low cost and will be just as much fun for DH and I as for DS.

But that's just what we're doing :flower: I absolutely agree with everyone else, that whatever you decide to do with your LO will be great and a trip to the zoo sounds fun! My DS would love that just as much!

We had LO's 1st Bday at the Portland Childrens Museum-- it was nice, but a bit hectic getting everything there. I just didn't want to deal with everyone at our house tbh. LOL. Figured the kids would have more fun running around and playing at the museum- where they had loads of toys, structures, things for kids to explore etc... plus, I was able to just go home after and relax! It can be stressful for sure- so do what makes sense for YOU hun. Long as you get some cute pics of LO- I wouldn't worry about it. I had a friend who literally went all out (OTT) for her LO's 1st bday- but that is just what they did in her culture (Hawaiin) and spent thousands and invited hundreds of people... I cannot even fathum that! LOL. We had maybe 15-20 people (kids included). But certainly NOTHING wrong with a more intimate day with just family or you and OH/LO. That would be just as lovely :)

Yes but just with family and our closest friends (who all happen to have children around the same age). It was more of a fun BBQ with our friends that happened to have cake:)

We just had a small party at home and invited my parents and sister and OH's mum, sister and her boyfriend. For her second birthday we'll probably do something with her little friends aswell :flower:

We had a themed party at our house. About 15 kids with their parents and some relatives. I had a really great time preparing everything and the kids loved it. I'm going to do it again this year. I love birthday parties. :)

We had a party at home with relatives and family friends.
