Could someone please tell me the difference. Was planning and getting my little man some lego but then i saw megablocks and got all confused! :dohh: The only thing i did figure was that megablocks are cheaper...anyone? xx

Isn't the Lego smaller? I think thats the difference the Mega blocks are really big and chunky so can't be swallowed x

You can get big lego too though

We had some big lego for Harry, and have just recently bought some Mega Bloks too and they work together :)

we have both, the megablocks are chunkier but to me don't fit together quite as well. The legos we have are 1.5 years and up and are bigger than regular lego but not big enough to be compatible with the megablocks (must be a lot of different ones out there ) and fit together better but we don't have nearly as many of them so it's hard to build stuff

Mega blocks come in 3 sizes I think - for ages 1+(maxi) 3+(mini) & 5+(micro)

I think Lego comes in Duplo 2+ & roughly equivalent to mini megabloks and normal small lego which is roughly equivalent to the 5+ micro megabloks.

We've had big mega bloks, he's having mega bloks for 3+ for christmas and when he outgrows them, I'll get normal lego I think....I actually put quite a lot of thought into deciding!

duplo are a bigger version of lego. They can be joined to lego blocks so if you are thinking of moving onto lego later the duplo maybe used for longer. I also find that they are stronger and withstand more.

lego and duplo are more solid than megablocks, they definately hurt your foot more if you stand on them!

Thomas loves his megabloks so we got him the megabloks table for his birthday so he can use it to build on :)

Hi ladies...thankyou all so much for replying :) After considering what you have all told me i went for lego :) Im sure either way he would have been happy to prefer...i just think i prefered the fact that the age range for lego was 2-5 which gives him plenty of years to play with them! xxx

Omar got one of those for his birthday but I didnt give it to him yet. When did your Lo start playing with it? Omar is soo occupied with walking those days & I want to wait for some time before giving him his mega blocks.

We have tons of lego I still like playing with it :haha: I just like it better and you can buy mor things that go with it like we have the disney cars lego and winnie the pooh :)

We have Duplo lego mainly. I love Lego and I like all the different sets you can get for Duplo. Em does have Megablocks too but she seems to like the Duplo best.

Building blocks help toddlers develop motor skills (fine + gross) as they put blocks into place. Usually blocks for babies are big so they can be picked using large muscle movements and they are light and soft so that they do not cause injury. Small blocks can be dangerous for babies (as they can be swallowed). Babies need first to work on larger blocks. Only as they grow older can children use smaller blocks that will help them develop their fine motor skills.

I hope this helps!
