It seems everything that could have gone wrong, did. But I'm happy to say we're all safe and sound!

On January 6th I went to L&D Triage because of "leaking fluids" (which turned out to be nothing). While we were there they discovered my blood pressure was running high at 150/90 with a trace of protein in my urine. After spending some time there we got my blood pressure down to the 130's / 80's and I was sent home on bed rest and to complete the 24hr urine collection. On Tuesday January 8th I had made an appointment to bring in my sample and check my blood pressure again. Again, it was 148/90. I was immediately sent to L&D to be induced. Labor had already started on its own, but was not progressing. At 2:00 PM they started me on pitocin to speed things up. After breaking my water they saw there was some meconium. By 11:00 PM contractions were coming on strong and even with an epidural they were painful, but it was time to push! After 30 minutes of pushing they could see the top of the head... Then after 2 hours of pushing, still nothing but the top of the head. Another doctor was called in for a second opinion and after examination we found out the head was cocked to the side a bit and wasn't progressing through. The decision for a c-section was made. I was brought to the OR and my epidural was turned up, however I could still feel where the incision was going to be made. We then tried a spinal tap. I was numb to my belly button, but not to my ribs where they usually like it to be. Because I was numb where the incision was going to be made we decided to go ahead and if I felt any pain I would be put to sleep immediately. After 3 minutes in to the surgery I began to feel some very sharp pain. I tried to bear with it until LO was born, but couldn't do it. I was put to sleep immediately and OH was kicked out of the room (they had to put a tube down my throat and needed to call in assistance so he had to leave). OH and I both missed LO being born. While it's upsetting, I'm happy to say he was born with out any further complications at 2:21 AM on January 9th at 8lbs 4oz and 20.5 in. I was waken at 3:00 AM to my beautiful baby boy, a moment I will never forget <3

Congratulations on your beautiful boy :) It sounds like you had a real time of it. It is a shame that you both missed the birth but I can relate to that somewhat. I was induced due to gestational diabetes. For 48 hours they kept sticking pessaries up me to kick start labour and absolutely nothing at all happened! I went for a caesarian as they wanted baby out having had no labour at all. I was awake throughout, didnt feel a thing but I also felt like I had missed the birth as there was the big screen up over my chest, I couldnt feel anything and the first I knew about it was hearing her crying then seeing a very tiny glimpse of her being carried across the room as she was whipped away to be weighed, cleaned up and checked. It seemed like forever until anyone brought her over to me to see (was probably about 5 minutes in reality). There was no transition period, one minute I was pregnant, then I wasnt, it was all very clinical and I still sometimes feel I missed out on the birth. Although I also feel that I was spared the agony of doing it naturally but I would try for this if we have another one!

At the end of the day, the babies were delivered safely and healthily and I am sure that thats all that matters. Congratulations again, enjoy your handsome little chap xxxxxxxxx
