I'm pregnant with my second, not enjoying the pregnancy so far as I'm experiencing many symptoms at the extreme, besides the sickness and prenatal depression the other worst symptom is gastro related. My Dr thinks my stomach is inflamed and has prescribed me Omeprazole, I'm praying this does the trick because otherwise he will refer me.

I can only eat very little, even a pack of crisps causes my stomach to bloat where I look 6 months pregnant and I'm only 9 weeks. It is extremely uncomfortable and I spend most of the day laying down because it's just too uncomfortable to be upright.

Just wondered if anyone else out there has experienced similar and were you prescribed anything that helped with the bloating and extreme discomfort?

Just an update (in case anyone happens to be reading and has or is experiencing similar) My Dr has now referred me to an Gastroentorolgist, I am feeling anxious as I don't know what to expect and am not clear regarding what exactlyh they will be looking for. I'm still not clear either wether my Dr thinks whatever the problem is, if it's related to my pregnancy or not. I'm thinking it must be, either that or it's coincidence that this discomfort started at the same time as all my other pregnancy symptoms.

Another update, again incase anyone reading this is experiencing similar symptoms. My Dr is convinced that I have a stomach dysmotility, whereby my stomach isn't emptying food as quickly as it normally does, this is causing the bloating and discomfort. He believes it is caused by the pregnancy hormones. I am seeing the gastoenterologist on Weds 31st March, am hoping he or she will have the definite diagnosis and treatment plan to put me on and make me feel more comfy. I will update again next week, I know no one else is replying to this post but maybe at some point it maybe useful to someone.

very interesting, thank you for sharing, hope you get some relief soon.xxx

Thanks quail.

I saw the gatsrenterologist and after looking at my upper abdomen scan results he concluded that I don't have a stomach ulcer or hiatus hernia and that the cause maybe purely down to pregnancy hormones causing the stomach dysmotility which should then vanish once baby is born but he also tested me for celiac disease, I won't get the results for this for over another week though. Apparently Celiac disease can be triggered by pregnancy or just after having a baby.

I feel like I've been on a roller coaster ride and all I want now is a confirmed diagnosis so I know how to correctly be taking care of myself.

I have celiac disease - was diagnosed in 2005. Send me a pm if you have any questions! Good luck :flower:

Thank you Wanta2010baby and congrats on achieving just that! I see we're both due in Septmeber :)

I had the results of my blood tests and it showed that I don't have any indication for celiac disease therfore the Dr and gastroenterologist are sticking with thier first suspicions and are both confident that I have a stomach dysmotility caused by the pregnancy hormones. The only way of treating this is through diet so I'm now waitig to see a dietitian for advise on what foods are ok to eat and easy for my stomach to digest and which foods to avoid. It frustrates me that I started this thread in Feb and by the time I see the dietitian on 4th May it will have been 3 months to actually get anywhere and be given the appropriate advice and treatment! I know the NHS is great, it's free etc but waiting times *sigh* you'd think being pregnant they'd have fast tracked my appointments, afterall the point of seeing the dietitian is to know which foods to eat so as the right amount of vitamins and nutrients etc get absorbed to baby, whihc makes me wonder the whole time I've been suffering, haven't they?? And what affect could this have had on my baby? Grr anyway mini rant over lol

hi hun im sorry you are sturggling i have a medical condition that causes this and reflux and a host of horrid things lol. i take omeprazole which helps with heartburn. there are also too meds that are known to help the stomach empty properly and speeds it up. these are prokinetic drugs. one is called domperidone or motillium the other is actually the anti biotic erythromicyn in low doses.

it might be worth asking about these meds to see if they are safe for pregnancy. i know domperidone can also be used to boost breast milk production.

i hope you can feel better soon.

jennie xx

Thanks for your reply jennie, my Dr had put me on metocloprimide and althugh I notced an improvement it wasn't much of one and the gastroenterologist took me off it because I'm pregnant. I've found that I have good and bad days, I suppose it's pot luck depending what I eat if it affects me in a bad way or not, but if the dietitian doesn't help then I think i might be asking the DR for a prescription of something to help again, I'll mention those that you suggested coz I know my DR has difficulty knowing what to suggest for me, he spends the majority of the appointment flicking through his book trying to find something for me.

I hope that your pregnancy is a comforable one and the hormones haven't upset your sotomach anymore than usual xx
