Diminishing milk or does it sound ok?

Hi

We are 10.5 weeks into our EBF journey and all has been going great.

I pumped at first as advised by doctors and lactation consultants. However, I noticed after a few days of pumping I would get terribly engorged, so I stopped. I hadn't pumped in around a month or more.

DS seems to be getting plenty as weight has been steady, plenty of wet diapers and poos, he seems content after eating and eats regularly.

Now, I have pumped some last week as I had to be away from him for 4 hours. Over a day and half I probably pumped enough for 3 feelings.

Now, DH and I are going to have our first date night since he was born. I have pumped 3 times yesterday and once this morning so far. At each pumping session I get between .5-1 oz from righty and 1-2oz from lefty.

While this sounds ok and I am sure it is fine,I'm used to pump much more in less time. I can pump 15-20 minutes each side now whereas I used to pump less than 10minutes. I could also get 1.5-2oz minimum from each breast.

are the lower amounts and slower pumping time just due to my milk adjusting to DS's needs? This doesn't mean my milk supply is diminishing or anything does it?

Just a bit worried! Thanks

Don't use the amount you express as any indication of milk supply. There are lots of things that can affect pumping but not feeding, if your getting wet nappies and weight gain there's nothing to worry about.Your supply will have adjusted. I've expressed every day and how much i express changes drastically every day but dd is getting enough so annoying that it us there need to worry

Most likely yes. Mine were crazy at first and I had to pump for my own sanity just to rid myself of the discomfort of having giant, engorged, spraying boobs and a baby who simply couldn't eat any more! I would try to take just a little off, but had so much, I would fill a 4 oz bottle in literally thirty seconds before I'd even had a let down. It was awful.

They took way longer than most to regulate too (5-6 months), but they did eventually, and I doubt if I could pump even half an ounce now. My boobs are flat as pancakes lol. I totally freaked out I was losing my supply too when it started to calm down, but nope - LO is still breastfeeding perfectly happily (she will be 16 months on the 11th).

Thanks. I ended up pumping 5oz this morning between both!

I was also worrying as my breasts have just been squishy, and not full squishy.nbut this morning they were full squishy lol so I guess it just goes up and down as needed.

Yes, that's all very normal once your supply has regulated. :)
