Hi,

Our DD is 6 weeks old tomorrow and has always suffered with terrible tummy problems. We are now finding she is better on SMA Lactose free, but she still get trapped wind.
Last night she was screaming in pain and we could only shift a bit of wind (cycling legs, patting back and bum etc) and she was wriggling so much we couldnt get her to take the Gripe water from the spoon, so my DH suggested dipping her dummy in it. I have been against her having a dummy from the beginning but now I cant ive without it! Whenever she has tummy pain it calms her down a bit. So we did, and it helped calm her down loads, enough that after 10 mins or so she nodded off.
Again this morning, she has been fussy after her feed, and no amount of cycling would shift anything so again, I have dipped her dummy in gripe water and she is now in her chair nodding off??
I thought it was an old wives tale...just shows there is something in some of these nuggets of advice!

Does anyone else do this?

Boys wouldnt let me put my finger in their mouths when they were teething so had to put bonjela on a dummy snd wipe it on their gums lol x

i tried this once but after that lo wouldnt take the dummy with out the gripe water so now i use a syringe instead

Yep I always dip his dummy in gripe water, can remember my mum doing it with my little sister and its brilliant for getting rid of his hiccups when he takes it off the spoon!!!

You actually cant buy gripe water in the south of Ireland, had to get my up the north, have no idea why as I know theres no alcohol in it anymore!!!

My niece has bad reflux as a newborn- so the doctor actually recommended the dummy to help her tummy issues (I guess because they are sucking and swalling more it helps keep the acid down when they have reflux). They still had to put LO on meds- but the dummy helped! So hey- if it helps your LO then kudos! My LO never took to a dummy but will suck on her hand for comfort or her bib or toy... LOL ;)

You gotta do what you gotta do to help keep LO comforted. Glad it works!!!
