Just when I got into the complete rhythm of nursing two... they learn something new and it gets tough! Both of my girls are starting to get extremely distractible... I've actually had to tell my DH to stop talking to me while they're nursing, otherwise they pop off and watch him talk.

They're also teething, which means they're starting to bite (nothing has cut just yet, thankfully). To keep myself from touching the girls when they bite I bring my hands up to my head... and between my hands and my very loud, "Ouch!" my husband thinks it's hysterical. I asked him last night to stop laughing because they're starting to realize that laughter is a good reaction, so they're doing certain things more to make us laugh... biting is NOT one of those actions!!!

My main reaction to biting, like I said, is to say "Ouch" very loud... which usually causes them to look up at me like, "What's wrong?". How long might it take for them to stop the biting?

I remember when my LO did this . . it's so painful :( Honestly, the only thing I did was wait it out. Within a month my LO stopped biting and even now with 12 teeth he doesn't bite at all. I've read a few women suggesting that you can take your LO(s) off the breast when you say ouch just to signify that when they bite they can't nurse.

I'm stalking this thread...

My lo wriggles, bites, scratches, sits up and down... I am covered in scratches and my nipples are bruised. She's distracted and wriggly even in a dark room! Her feet or her sleeping bag or something will interest her for ages! It's driving me mental.

I would unlatch her and tell her that hurt. She grew out of it fast.

Try a nursing necklace or giving her a toy she can hold onto.. it could help with the craziness. I sometime feel like I am trying to nurse a wild animal. She has almost done head stands while nursing at times.

LOL at head stands! That's got to hurt!

Good ideas, thanks. I'll give a necklace a try. :)

It may sound harsh, but when Rowan would bite me I would tell her she hurt mama and it would end the nursing session. If she was distracted and biting she couldn't have been that hungry. It ended very quickly.
Of course, I tried the "ouch!" approach and she thought it was hilarious...This was the only thing that worked and I'm very glad because she cut two teeth at four months and I could no longer handle the biting.

LO started biting me a couple weeks ago. he doesn't have any teeth yet but those gums HURT! i would tell him "no" in a stern voice and he wouldn't do it again. he hasn't done it in about a week and hopefully he doesn't do it ever again!
