My LO has never been super attached to her pacifier but she does sleep with one (she never has it when she is awake). The last few nights after I have been up to feed her in the night I have tried to give her back her pacifier before laying her down and she refuses to take it. I'm wondering if she has grown out of the need to suck for comfort, so I am going to try to take them away and see what happens. I think she might struggle a bit for the first few naps and at bedtime but more because it's a habit and not so much that she need the comfort. We will see how it goes! If she is really struggling with not having one then I will give it back to her, but if she doesn't need it anymore then I figure I might as well get rid of it now before she is a toddler and forms a strong attachment to it. She has a lovey that she seems to be more attached to than the pacifier, so hopefully just having her lovey will be enough for her.

I can't believe it! Time for a nap, I put her down awake in her crib and left the room. She fussed (didn't even cry, just grumbled) for literally 2 minutes and then fell asleep without her pacifier! I am totally shocked at how easy that was!

Oooh well done. Keep up Isla.

My lo can go to sleep without one sometimes but eventually she will half wake up fussing until she gets it back. Then she sleeps happily

That's awesome that it was so easy! Report back if she keeps it up. I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Nice job, mama!

Second nap she struggled a bit more, I had to comfort her a couple of times before she decided to fall asleep, but it was only about a 10 minute process before she was out. Hoping things go well at bedtime!

Haha, bedtime did not go so well! It took 2 hrs 40 min to get her to sleep! I let her fuss a bit when I put her down in her crib but as soon as it escalated to actual crying I would go intervene, I don't have the heart to do CIO, especially not when I've also taken away her pacifier! So that cycle continued for a long time and then she finally fell asleep when I layed down with her for the twentieth time! Hopefully as she gets used to napping without the pacifier bedtime will become easier. She didn't suck on her fingers or her lovey while she was trying to sleep, so I don't think she needed something to suck on so much as it was just such a habit to have her pacifier and she wasn't sure how to fall asleep without it.

We had a couple of fussy naps over two days but nothing major and the pacifiers are now completely forgotten about! And her latch which has always been a bit shallow is now much better and she nurses for longer now, allowing her to go longer stretches at night without nursing. I'm so glad we got rid on those pacifiers!
