But nothing has changed as far as im aware. They never had automatic rights to a child.

They were talking about this on breakfast tv this morning ad basicly fathers dont have rights neither do mothers, its the childrens rights that are taken into consideration and always have been

I think that whether you are a father/mother/grandparent/aunt etc is really not that relevant. Cases should be considered on their own merits and each circumstance is different. It should always be based on what is best for the child and who can offer the best care for them. Just because you gave birth to the child does not make you the best option, neither does the fact that your sperm helped create them. In some cases, adopted parents are a much better influence then birth parents and I totally believe in nurture over nature.
