Morning girls,

I'm just gonna start by saying I am absolutely shattered! My poor little man has been constipated for just shy of 2 weeks now. I've tried everything I can to help him, he started out on cow and gate, I changed him to aptamil a few days ago in the hope that it would be easier for him to digest, but I still have a screaming baby to contend with. He simply can't poo and when he does manage one it is tiny, hard and pellet like.

If anyone here has had the same problems have you tried aptamils comfort milk? Did it help? Is there anything I should know about it? I've read that cow and gates comfort milk is very thick and can't be used with a first size teat, is this the same for aptamil? Sorry for all the questions but there isn't much info about this brand of milk online and I'm really at my wits end!

When I was told to take Grace off the breast due to her lactose intolerance at 6 weeks I tried Aptimel comfort. I found it did help her colic quite a bit but not completely. I can't say how it would affect your LO's poo though as Grace's was explosive and gallons of it whilst she was BF (it used to leak from her nappy and fill most of the legs of her babygro)!!!!

When the doctors put her on SMA LF however it made her very constipated for a few weeks and the doctors/MW said to give her little drinks of cooled, boiled water throughout the day, It worked within 24hrs and she has been great ever since. Hope that helps. :flower:

Thanks beanz! I've been trying the cooled boiled water throughout the day, its very difficult to get LO to drink it though and when he does he tends to spit it back up, naughty baby lol. It did seem to work the first day we tried it but back to square one the day after :(

Grace wouldn't take plain water either so HV said to do a VERY weak milk solution of 1oz water to quarter scoop of milk to make it more palatable but not to let her fill up on it as it would be to weak to sustain her. She took to that fine. :flower:

I use aptamil comfort milk but only as top ups - he is mainly breastfed. I haven't noticed much of a difference poo wise yet (although still early days and like i say he doesn't have much). It is thick though and we have to use a 2 or 3 flow teat. Aptamil is made by the same people as cow and gate - i don't think they are too different.
We were given lactulose by the doctor though and that cleared him out rather quickly! If it persists you could try asking for it from your doctor. Hope it sorts itself out soon. x

We used it and didn't have too much of a problem, but we did switch to Dr Browns bottle with the Level 2 teat

We're using Aptamil Comfort formula because Caleb has colic. He was on Aptamil First Milk originally and his poos have become runnier and smell much worse now that he's on the Comfort formula. We noticed a difference within 24 hours. We use Dr. Brown's bottles and went from a stage 1 to stage 3 teat when changing over to the Comfort formula. We've even found that it clogs the stage 3 teats at times, so just keep an eye on it while babs is feeding. Good luck!!

I had to put Aiden onto it after numerous attmpts at diff formulas tummy ache / constp you name it, never looked back xxx

I think I'm definately gonna try it, I feel awful watching him in so much pain...and I'm so tired I'm willing to try anything! Problem is I only have the number 1 teats (avent bottles)... is the forumla going to be too thick for those? Can't really afford to go out and buy new teats til payday at the end of the month which is when he needs to be swapped to them anyways I think? xx

I use avent bottles and I would say that the comfort is a bit too thick to use with the first stage teat. My MW said to still use stage one but heat a needle in a flame and push through the existing hole to make it a bit bigger. Be careful not to make it too big. Only try doing one at once so if you make a mistake you still have the other teat to use. I have been using the 3 hole ones since Grace was 9 weeks old although you have to be vigilant when LO is feeding as the flow is a lot heavier and until they get used to the difference can take in too much at once and cough and splutter.

dont follow the guidelines on teats angel like most things they are just a guide aiden was on #2 by 5 weeks and #3 by 10 weeks drank so much better as didnt have to work so hard all babies are diff so have a try when ever you feel baby is ready, and def try the milk it worked within a few days xxx

Okay Ryan has now been on the comfort milk for just over 2 days, he seems much more settled but still hasn't pood yet, he used to scream and cry for hours and hours trying to go, but now he just has the odd half an hour here and there where he looks like hes straining but still not managing to push anything out...for those of you who swapped to comfort milk how long did it take before you noticed a real difference? When did you LO start to poo and how long should I leave it before I try and get something prescribed from doctor as we have tried 3 different milks now :(

xxx

take him to ur gp. i thought it was milk causing my sons constipation (constipation since birth) but gp gave him lactulose (he was already having 6oz prune juice a day) and lactulose didnt help either. he is now on 1 sachet of movicol a day and still only going every 5 days or so. hes gotta go to allergy clinic and have a scan to see if his bowel is tiwsted or blocked :( trust me hun, i know how aweful it is with a baby with constipation :( until he was on movicol he hadnt been for just over a month :( x

My boy is on cow and gate comfort - you definatley need the larger teats - i find variflow (TT) works best. Since being on comfort he has started to trump alot more - and they smell!! He started pooing more often with runnier stools less than 24 hours after his first feed. Its so hard seeing your baby crfy with pain when tryiing to poo, i really feel for you x

I think you should visit your GP you sound like you have tried all options!

Good luck xx
