I am looking for something that may help my LO with all this teething. She gets unbearably cranky some days and the natural tablets and sometimes last resort orajel don't help. My mom also told me my grandma made a necklace out of nutmeg maybe that I wore and it seemed to help.. I haven't looked into that yet.

We got our LO his Amber teething necklace when he was 3 months old (been wearing it ever since) and we could never tell he was teething until after a tooth popped and I felt it while nursing him. I would really recommend getting one!!

I bought one, was very skeptical, after a couple months took it off, around 7 months old she wasnt sleeping just, crying/screaming and chewing everything. After a week of this I put the necklace on desperate for something to work, been sleeping fine ever since, if she wasnt drooling so much Id have no clue she was even teething (still no teeth though)

I bought one. Unfortunately, it did not make a slight difference to my LO teething.

Looked cute though :)

I got one for Alex when he was 3 months old, never had to give any other teething remedy. Helps with lots of other stuff to. I was sceptical about them. I would buy them for next one to. I never had to sit up after that night with teething with Alex that I bought it online. Saved both us. Good investment for us.

Just curious If anyone knows a reputable website to buy one? I don't want to get stuck with a fake :/

Sorry for the hijack !

I have seen them on the cloth diaper sites I buy from.. so thats where I will probably get mine

My LO always wears hers but she kept tugging at it yesterday so I took it off...

Last night was terrible and she was miserable all day until I realized her necklace was off. I kid you not, she did a complete 180, finally had a nap and is back to her cheery self.

I keep hearing dinodaisy website, thats where I will get my next one.

I don't think it'll be easy to get a baby sized one from a reputable site in the UK as there have been concerns raised over the safety of them. You could get a toddler one but I wouldn't - it would be far too long and that could be dangerous. If it's long enough for LO to get it up onto their chin, it's too long. They can chew on the beads and they crack into pretty sharp pieces, not to mention the choking risk (although they are small enough to probably pass through, but if they're sharp I would worry). I would get one from the US maybe, in a proper baby size. Inspired by Finn is very reputable.

I would carefully measure your LO's neck before ordering. Both of my LO's have had 10.5 inch ones, anything else was far too long and they've both been pretty fat!

I'd recommend them, my LO has worn his since he was 3 months old & he had no teething problems at all. 2 teeth just popped out when he was 10 months. No night wakings, no crankiness, just noticed the first tooth when we were going round tescos with LO in the trolley!

He certainly did the drooling & chewing on things but I believe those are developmental & not teething, as by the time my LO got his teeth he hadn't drooled for about 2-3 months & rarely chewed on anything.

I take the necklace off my LO at night & for naps tho, just in case.

I got amber teething bracelets from amberpumpkin. Thanks to the EU, it is now very difficult to get actual necklaces now in baby sizes in the UK. I sometimes use it as an ankle bracelet, too. So far so good with my LO. Days he doesn't wear it he seems to have a lot more gum discomfort.

So I finally broke down and got one from mon petit mardi. Just put it on her tonight so we shall see. I plan to take it off when she naps and sleeps just to be safe. We have stopped co-sleeping now unless she wakes before 730 then she comes to our bed.

We got one even though we were skeptical, hubby especially, and so far all of his teeth have come in without any problems, and he's got four molars coming in right now. Of course, I won't say definitively that its because of the necklace, but we figure it can't hurt (provided its a safe size). Ours is from Inspired by Finn.

I swore by ours for Max. It was amazing.

Ill get next baby one as well, probably an anklet tough since necklaces are hard to come by now. I got it from amber pumpkin

That explanation is Succinic acid, baltic amber is known to contain between 3-8% succinic acid. According to proponents this is released from the beads and into your baby. The succinic acid then allegedly has an analgesic effect and so reduces the pain of teething. Here is where my first point regarding plausibility comes in:

Amber is tough, really tough. This is a material that has persisted for thousands and in some cases millions of years unchanged. Suffering through heating and cooling of innumerable climatic changes through the years. Yet this same tough unchanging material with happily give up it’s chemical components upon the gentle heating it receives on being placed next to your baby’s skin? Colour me unconvinced[1&2]. Related to this point amber has a hardness on the Mohs scale of between 1 and 3 [3], baltic amber which is usually touted as the therapeutic variety (because of the high succinic acid content) is at the high end of this scale 2 – 2.5. To put this in perspective, Tin has a hardness of about 1.5 and Gold is 2.5-3 [4]. But forget about this point, I don’t need it. Lets say for argument sake that clinically relevant amounts of succinic acid are released by the amber and absorbed by your baby’s skin.

I don't trust articles with random apostrophes everywhere .

More seriously, I'm not convinced of the scientific explanation given by some as to how amber necklaces work, but I still believe they can work. I wonder if perhaps they work more along the lines of homeopathy, which is something millions of people use and trust but hasn't been scientifically shown to work (yet?).
