as a standard?

I refused the nuchal transluency scan but at my 20 week anomly scan they said the nuchal fold was 7.4/7.6mm when the maximum is 6mm.

Obivoulsy i dont know what the measurement was at 12 weeks when i have heard its most reliable, but checking my scan report it says "live fetus, HB seen, no abnormalities detected for gestational age"

What i want to know is, if the neck was thick then, would it be picked up even though i refused the transluency testing.

Im just freaking out now the closer i am to giving birth. She has femur bones in the 91st percentile which MW said is a good sign, as downs babies have smaller femurs.

Any advise would be appreciated.

xx

I am pretty sure that I had to give permission for them to measure it. If you refused I wouldn't expect them to try as it can be difficult to do if the baby is laying the wrong way or a wiggler.

Hey hun, as far as I understood the nt measurement is only significant when taken between 11 and 13wks. After that it's thickness is not predictive of downs and is not used as a marker. Your lo is probably fine :) Hope that helps x

Thanks girls. I hope she is fine. The consultant on Tuesday said babies with Chromosome problems do not follow a good growth pattern and my little one has. She has been on the top of the growth chart all the way through.

Just getting a bit scared now x

Hi hun, sorry to hear you are still worrying. In England its pretty standard to check nuchal fold at your 12 week scan (must be done between 11 and 13+6). In Scotland there are some hospitals that still wont do this.

Have you checked your notes? The only reason I knew what my measurement was was because Id read up on the whole thing in detail because of my age (Im 39) so it was important to me to know what the measurement was. I asked and she said it was normal but I said that I wanted to know the actual measurement. Had I not asked she would have just written in my notes but not told me. If you need me to check my notes to tell you where its written give me a shout. The measurement they gave you at 20 weeks is completely irrelevant as it wont be remotely accurate to give any basis for you to worry about baby having downs etc. (Your baby also has a very obvious fully developed nasal bone) Try not to worry hun. x

I have checked my notes with every detail lol and nothing is mentioned, it just shows crown to rump length and says no anamolies detected for gestational age.

But.....because im a constant worrier (as im sure you know), i have been looking at my scan in fine detail and i think i can see the fold, i have read on the internet its the black fluid on the back of the neck so i think what i see its small (attached a pic) I was 13+6 on this scan pic so last day to be measured.

I think im panicking again now because birth is round the corner x

Hey Hun, you've met your match in me, I worry even about worrying lol :hugs: Looking at your signature, it's no wonder you're anxious. Losing babies opens up a whole new world of pain, and makes pregnancy a far scarier experience. No one really understands that unless they have been through it.

Your lo will be absolutely fine darlin', and will be safe in your arms very soon. You are so deserving of some happiness now chicken :hugs:

Hi hun, yes i think it is there but your bubba is facing towards the "camera" rather than face up IYKWIM so the bit that you can see on the photo wouldnt give you an accurate indication. Ill check my notes tomorrow and see where it is that they have noted mine. From memory Im sure its on a pink piece of paper that was stuck onto the notes rather than being part of them (if that makes sense). If there were any issues with bubs then they would have picked up soft markers at your 20 week scan. As I said in my previous post your baby clearly has a fully developed nasal bone which is a great sign. Is it downs you are concerned about hun or is it one of the other trisomies? x

I thought she was facing upwards I can't work out how she is facing the camera??

I'm worried about everything, but at all my scans she has been on the 90th percentile or above and the consultant said a baby with a chromosome abnormality wouldn't follow such a steady pattern x

Hi I am going through the same situation. I refuses the first trimester scan, but when I went in for my 18 week scan the dr told me that the nuchal fold was measuring 7.0mm and that it could be an indication for Down's syndrome..everything else was normal. I have been a nervous wreck since then.. I had blood test done, but I won't get results until 2 weeks from now.. I am wondering what outcome did mother of ange have or if anyone else has been through the same situation.. Please help
