My boiler is finally being fixed (after 3 weeks!!) and the plumber came yesterday and again today. Im comfortable around men in a social/work setting but for some reason i am really uncomfortable staying in the house when workmen are there so i leave asap! :haha:

Is it a fairly normal thing for women to feel?

Yeah I had the boiler man round today, tbh he was absolutely gorgeous and I had no make up on and my hair was standing on end. That was uncomfortable lol. Normally I get someone to sit with me cos I dont really like it

It's probably normal. I don't mind and I usually have a chinwag and a cup of tea with them, but I'm weird

It probably didnt help that yesterday when i told him i was going out he said

"oh but you have to stay and make me coffee and keep me warm"

I just looked at his blankly for a second then said ok bye then :haha:

Workmen make me really uncomfortable too. I always either leave or sit in a corner with a book and hide

I have only encountered a handful that have made me uncomfortable.
I guess it helps that I have one large dog, and one massive dog!
If someone asks if their friendly and I dont like who's asking, I say they are until given a reason not to be. That usually get a look!
If I didn't have the dogs I would be more uncomfortable.

Me! I live in a 1 bed flat so there's no where other than my bedroom to go and my living/diner/kitchen are all one room so I feel awkward sat watching crap tv making small talk!

I try and make sure I'm out so my landlord has to let them in and out.

Both my ex's workmen so I don't know why I find it diffucult xx

i HATE workmen so much I will cross the road to avoid walking past them when they are working outside e.g builders never mind have them in my house !!!

Hate, hate, hate!

I feel really rude not asking if they want a drink but I just want them gone :haha:

Not really. They're just doing their job. Maybe they don't feel comfortable coming into your home, but have no choice since it's their job. Usually they're someones husband or dad too, just normal people trying to do a job!

I agree with this. We had workmen in and out of our house for a good two weeks when the council redid our kitchens. Most of them were pretty funny and they talked to Alex. One of the painters felt bad though because he accidentally got some paint on Alex! :haha:

I live with one :haha: OH would hate it if he had made someone feel uncomfortable in their own home

I don't mind them however when I was 19 and living at my moms they were doing work on the roof so the scaffolding was right outside my bedroom window, now that was uncomfortable! Even though they were young and good looking:haha: What's worse is that I always forgot to close my curtains on the night so they'd be wide open in the morning.

They don't bother me really. I'm quite shy so I don't talk much unless they make conversation, but I don't mind them. I don't like it when they ask questions about what needs doing as I usually haven't got a clue, so I prefer my husband to be there :haha:

I understand what you mean and have yet to come across one who didn't ask to use the loo. Hate strangers using my loo!

Nope don't bother me, I normally offer them a cuppa!

I always wonder what i should do when they are here but i wouldn't say i was uncomfortable. I tend not to leave them in the house though in case anything goes missing etc lol.
We are having our kitchen done at some point in the new year and it's likely to take 2-3 weeks - that will be weird but will probably get used to having them around :)

Me too! But I am so paranoid about appearing rude. I have to talk to people otherwise I feel so awkward I can't stand it! I even sit in the front seat of cabs so I dont feel like I am treating the driver as my chauffeur - yes I have issues :haha:
