Do you change your baby's diaper at night? How frequently?

I change when he wakes for his night feed if I don't I feel so guilty which is silly!

Sorry just read other posts hehe this is silly! You do what you feels right lol I only change it as my lo had a sore bit on his bum so I wanted to keep it from getting too soggy. Bloody hell a post on nappy changing!

I'm terrible, this morning (about 5am) she woke up and I fed then put back in crib, she babbled and cooed as I dragged myself back to bed. After a few minutes she quietened down, then I heard a loud "OOF" then the biggest, wettest poo ever.

OH mumbled "shouldn't you go change it?" and I said, face still buried in the pillow, "shhhh... she still might fall asleep..."

Why would there need to be an argument over changing or not changing a nappy through the night? :/

Anyways I don't and I stopped that at a young age, I would only change him during the newborn days where he would be awake for a feed or in poop.

I'd also like to add that if one was using disposables, and changed every time baby was even hinting at having a damp bottom, and kept changing them all through the night...that is a lot of rubbish going into landfills. So I'd hardly feel superior for that!

I'm seriously confused who wakes a sleeping baby to change a wet nappy thats not leaking... You have to get them out of their warm bedding, undress them, expose them to the cold when they were snuggly and comfy for the sake of being able to say 'I never leave my baby in a nappy thats been wet for all of 5 minutes'

Well said!

Is this thread serious?! I've actually laughed out loud at some of replies, especially the one from Mellyboo about setting the alarm to change nappy in the middle of the night!

Anabella has a really heavy nappy in the morning, but she has no irritation and her bum is dry. Why on earth would I go and wake her several times in the middle of the night and change her? I'd be encouraging her to have multiple wake ups!

How do you know when they've pee'd anyway. Do you just keep checking over and over? Anabella (in the day when having nappy off time) sometimes does 3 wee's in the space of 15 minutes, imagine getting in and out of bed all the time to change. Ridiculous!!

Goodness some people must have far too much time on their hands.

ETA - I would always change a poo nappy at night, but I honestly can't remember the last time she poo'd at night so not an issue.

Oh goodness gracious me, someone better turn me in to welfare now. Liam has a bad rash on his bum because he pooed after I checked on him the other night (midnight) and was like it till 8am when he woke up. Maybe I need to develop ESP so this never happens again. My bad... I didn't realise after he STTN I should wake him every couple of hours. Back to Parenting 101 *sigh*

You baddie! Check every five minutes from now on, all through the night.

I believe my LO's reaction to being awakened in the middle of the night over a wet diaper would look something like this:

Oh yes then I am sure you won't be allowed back to sleep!

I think sarahbear made this to try and start an argument. Note how she hasn't been back on.....

To be fair, this thread has been a bit harsh on her as well, so she might be hesitant about posting in again. There are people who just think it's wrong to leave their babies in dirty diaper for a long time (no excuse for judgement on others over that though).

I think disturbing a baby's sleep is so much more cruel than not changing their diaper. Sleep is so important for a baby. And I'm no expert in the workings of sleep, but it seems like the baby would never get into a nice, deep sleep if you did that all the time.

I'd change her if she woke me up with a poopy diaper, but other than that, no. And I DEFINITELY wouldn't put her on a potty. Talk about a disturbance..

I don't change my kids diapers at night unless they've had a poo or have pee'd through. Its no biggie and we've never had a rash as a result either. :coffee:

LO gets a disposable overnight and a thin layer of sudocrem on her bum before bed as a precaution. I will then change her when we wake in the morning.

Why do I get the feeling this thread was started as a holier than thou statement? "I wake up and change and potty" etc. Was this necessary?

It was started because I thought it was the norm to not change but then I was talking to someone who couldn't believe that people don't change their babies at night so I was trying to get a sense of what people tend to do. People seem touchy about the subject though...

It's the way you phrased your posts, if you explained before hand that you just want to have a feel about what people do instead of implying it's a bad thing to not change, then people would not be "touchy" about it.
