I had an ultrasound yesterday to check on my amniotic fluid levels & have been told that they are low with the AFI being 8.7. Straight after the scan I was sent up to Maternity Assessment & was given an internal examination to check whether I was leaking which I'm not. Baby's heartbeat sounds fine & apparently placenta & kidneys look fine too so was told it's a bit of a mystery to them why the fluids are low but that they'd like to re scan me next week again. Was then phoned this morning & asked to meet with a consultant tomorrow. I am getting really worried now & would love to hear from any of you that have experience with low amniotic fluid.

Hope you are all well :flower:

hi hun,

i had very low amniotic fluid in the last 2-3 months of my pregnancy.

i regularly saw a consultant who requested extra scans to make sure bloody supply was good from placenta to baby, and just to make sure baby was ok.

im sure its nothing to worry about

I have been in exactly the same boat. At 20 week scan, they gave us a bleak prognosis and said my waters had gone. 5 days later, my AFI was 11.1 cm so just the lower end of normal. Two weeks later (last week), my AFI was 10.2 cm, so the consultant said basically the same, kidneys and bladder look fine and baby's growth was spot on so doesn't look like placental problems. My CMW sent me back to PAU wednesday just gone to check for leaking. Did a speculum test, made me cough 3 times, no fluid was coming out, and when I wear panty liners, they are always totally dry. I have another scan next wednesday but baby has been so active today, so I think things are OK for now. My fundal height is spot on and doctor says when she palpated, there felt like a good amount of fluid but its all a bit weird. Doesn't sound like a leak to me currently.

How was your consultant appointment?

hi girls
I had a scan today for amniotic fluid check. My due date is next Wednesday so this is near the end. AFI was 6.7 which is very low. After the scan I spoke to ob and she sent me for ctg which was fine and another scan in different hospital unit to check again AFI and blood flow in the cord. This time it came to 9.6 which is perfectly normal at 39 weeks and blood flow is fine. They got me worried as hell then said that it all was OK.

HI

I had low fluid in my pg, I also had high afp hormone and had to have regular growth scans. At my growth scan at 35 weeks it indicated that growth was slowing, they checked again at 36 and even slower, then at 37 it had just about stopped. My dd was delivered by planned c-section (she was breach too) at 37+3, and was perfectly fine tho a tidgy 5lb 5oz - but needed no special care or anything.

It can be a sign that you placenta may not make it to 40-42 weeks, but as long as they continue to monitor and scan you and there are no other concerns I would try as best as you can to relax.

xx

At what week did your low fluid start looloobelle? Did you have afi measurements done?

Hi

It was picked up at a growth scan at 28 weeks, I was only measuring fundal hieght of 24, but that could have been down to her position as well. Don't recall having afi measurments done, if they did they didn't tell me. They did try to establish if I was leaking, and I am sure that i wasn't, and was right there were no leaks either.

They also did the blood flow checks every fornight too, and that was ok, though at one point there was concern but that appeared to be down to me and my own bp at the time, it was low and they did the test again four hours later and it was fine again.
