I thought you ladies might know more than on the pregnancy boards. I know if you buy a second hand cot you need a new mattress but what about for siblings?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't, our cot bed mattress had a removable cover that I took off and ran through a hot wash.

I sponged down the rest of the mattress with hot soapy water and left to air dry

It was an expensive mattress when I first got it and always planned to use it multiple times :)

We bedshare, so I have no idea, but it seems odd that you'd have to get a new one!

You're meant to. We haven't replaced the moses basket mattress because it was only used for a couple of months. But I think I'd replace a cot mattress as they are normally used for much longer.

The dead skin cells get into the mattress or some such thing. I only ever used my cot as a side-car to my bed briefly with each kid so it didn't get much use. Won't have one at all this time.

We got a new mattress for bub number 2. We shouldn't have bothered though as she won't even go in the cot!

Nope we didnt, we got an expensive one to begin with and just didn't see the point in getting a new one since we know where it's been and who has used it.

We did get a new mattress for baby 2 but went for a slightly cheaper one this time.

I asked my midwife about this, she said as the mattress is used & gets a dpi in the middle you get edges around the side (between the cot sides & the mattress) which can be dangerous if they get too big! I won't be bothering (although my first was hardly ever in there) I suppose it depends how worn it is really x

I've got a new Moses basket mattress but won't get one for the cot bed as it has always had a waterproof cover and was fairly expensive.

I did only because I needed 2 mattresses anyway. I personally wouldn't bother otherwise. I think you are meant to but I don't see the harm in just flipping it over?

I got a new moses basket mattress and cot mattress for each of mine.
