Do you think cot mobiles over stimulate?

Just wondering (as you do at 4.30am!), what people's opinions were! My LO is led in his cot with his mobile going round atm, just staring at it. Now at 7pm this evening when I put him down for the night he watched 2 full cycles before falling asleep. However, now he is just watching and watching so much that I REALLY wish I'd bought an electric mobile instead of a wind up one lol.

What do you think? Are they over stimulating? Do they help you LO drop off to sleep?

XxX

They've never worked with our LO. she's been more interested in watching it rather than falling asleep to it!

And it's a wind up one too, and runs out pretty quick, so I guess I'd have to say given my time again I'd go for a remote one. But she's at the point where she keeps grabbing at it now and so I'm going to have to think about taking it off :s x

I think babies let you know when they are being over stimulated.. my LO will look away from his mobile and whimper until I turn it off and away from him.

We have never used LO's. We always have just put on a fan (not blowing away from her) for some white noise and play a lullaby CD on repeat all night. LO loves it and sleeps very well, and is typically quite happy with herself till I get up at 6. Go in her room and she is all smiles.

Our LO falls asleep to hers, no problem. Well, unless she is going thru a regression or a tooth is coming in, then we usually have to rock her.. For the most part though, she falls asleep to it. We actually have two a wind up and a battery operated/with a remote. We mostly use the mobile that is battery operated. Though every baby is different, you just have to figure what works for your LO.. Which sometimes is not easy..? Lol!

My Lo has a wind up one that is quite subtle, there aren't too many toys hanging from it and the lullaby is quiet compared to some. It definitely helps to settle him before bed and he seems to associate it with his bedtime routine

I used to put LO in her cot with the mobile going when I needed a few minutes upstairs to do something. She'd get sooooooo excited! So when she moved into her own room and her cot to sleep I took it off as I think it would just get her too excited. I do get it out sometimes and she does still get excited.

Sidney loved his tiny love cot mobile, but as an activity rather than to wind down x

I never bought a cot mobile for either of our LOs as I do not want any stimulation in the cot- when they are in their bed they are there to sleep!:flower:

My lo gets super excited and smiles to his cot mobile. Definately did not help him sleep. I've taken it down!

Some of them yes, you get some that are constantly blinking flashing noisy etc. I think a simple wind up one is not too stimulating. As others said, different babies react differently so just watch the signs (turning away, fussing)

Ours is taken down for sleep in the evenings but will put it upin the morning for LO to play with and it entertains him just long enough for me to sort out what we are both wearing for the day. He loves it gets super excied cooing at it and trying to bat the objects going round. For sleep he has a dreamlight show which projects noving images on the ceiling and he finds this very soothing.

I take off the mobile part and just leave the music playing without the night light or light show. I use the mobile part in the morning when i need to keep him amused while i get dressed etc.

Im grateful that mine came with a control so i can turn it on without getting up. Plus if he shouts or cries it also starts up.

In a word YES it either scared him or over stimulated him. I was given a fisher price rainforest on it last about 10 mins before I took it off the cot and that was the end of it. Glad I never paid £45 for it, I should ebay it.
