I have had a stressful few days with lots of tears and arguments.

Do you think this has an affect on the baby or not?

Personally NO I Dont think so :hugs:

My reasoning for this is that there are people going through many things whilst pregnant..ie. this couple many many years ago for South Africa who were on holiday and they were abducted by some terrorist group. They were kept hostage for quite a few months in terrible conditions...and upon thier release...she was pregnant and a beautiful healthy baby boy was born.

Your body is strong and your body will work with you to protect your baby. Dont stress about stressing...

You will be just fine :hugs:

My beloved cat died 3 weeks ago and the grief I felt was hurrendous - I thought I was never going to stop crying. I too worried about the effect of this on my baby but was reassured by my midwife that whilst the stress and upset is not good for us, it doesn't harm the baby in any way. Hope things get better for you soon :hugs:

......mmm.....I don't quite think so......However, I'm sure there must be a lot of research on this subject (which I haven't read...), and I may be wrong...

It is true that when you are very stressed or very agitated you release hormones such as adrenaline and substances in your brain such as endorfines or cortisol. However, I think that a baby is very well protected by the placenta inside your womb, and unless there is a massive release of some specific hormones, I don't think this affects the baby.

I watched a television program called "In the Womb" on National Geographic and they said that if your heart races, from being scared or something similar, the baby doesn't feel it right away but in a delayed effect their heart will beat faster as well. I believe that a baby can feel the effects of what your are feeling, especially stressful situations.

It was a wonderful show by the way.

Well....I get teary and all that, so in the midst of tears, I just pat my tummy and tell the baby that mommy's having one of those moments, so hopefully, we both calm down.

PS. I'm worried about my kitty at the moment (she's sticking her tongue out at me but isn't eating properly), waiting for my DH to come home so we can take her to the vet. Interestingly, took the day off as have been suffering from tension headaches, so we can take the kitty tonight to the vet and not wait until the am, because I would stress all night. Odd, how things work out?

If I am upset at something crying usually releases the tension and calms me afterwards.
