Do you think your labour & delivery has a direct effect on how your baby is now?

I had a c-section which was very straightforward. Erin was a very fractious baby to begin with but is now the happiest little angel in the world who rarely cries.

I think Elyse is fussier than the average baby,

Her birth was no treat!

I had a very traumatic birth and labour and Oliver is a very laid back chappy BUT he has terrible night terrors. I swear it's down to being stuck in the birth canal - what else can you have terrors about at a few days old?!!

i think it has a small part to play in how the baby is, but i think the majority is down to the babies personality, how chilled/stressed you were in pregnancy and how you care for the baby

I had a horrendous labour and Phoebe is a handful she likes to scream!

not really, no.

I had a crash csection for pre-eclampsia and severly distressed baby yet Brooke is just a baby, doing baby things :cloud9:

I think the labour has a more profound effect on the mother than the baby...i.e if you have a traumatic birth you can blame the birth on the behavour of the baby or your feelings towards the baby or your interpretation of the baby's/child's feeling towards you. My view is that none of us can remember our own births, so they can't have had that much of an effect on us!!!

My eldest was a pretty good labour and delivery, and he was the most difficult baby! Colicky for a good 6months, and always difficult even till he was nearly 4years old! But my baby Joel, nasty labour, he got stuck, but he's sooo much easier of a baby!

I had a difficult 49 hour labour and Lola is a happy, chilled baby who rarely even cries... so I don't think it had anything to do with it.

No i dont think it does at all my birth was horrendous and other then not sleeping at night Jack is a really easy baby x

I don';t know about the labour. Mine was hideous and lasted forever and in the end was a ventouse delivery but Byron's heart rate never accelerated and he seemed to be calm throughout. However I do think his coming early had an impact on both the labour and how long it has taken Byron to adjust to being a person outside of me. I also know that there is evidence that a stressful pregnancy affects the baby adversely due to the exposure to stress hormones and such babies tend to react more to difficult situations and have more stressful responses than normal. What counts as a stressful labour though I am not sure. Certainly my Mum had a terrible time with me and had pre-ecamplsia and was on bed rest in hospital for some weeks before I was induced and I have had some PTSD and tend to get very irrationally anxious to worries that are not really that bad. My pregnancy was horrible with me feeling sick throughout and I found it extremely difficult but I didn't have any serious medical difficulties so I am not sure whether that will affect Byron or not.

I dont think so..I had a really traumatic birth and he is the most happy laid back baby Ivv ever known..Hes always smiling and giggling and only ever cries if hes hungry or got tummy ache. Hes a very sicky baby though, dont know whether that could be related to the birth?? I had hyperemesis the whole pregnancy and was extremely sick during labour as well..Im sceptical that thats the reason hes like it though..
