Doctor said miscarriage but am I still Pregnant??

So this is my first post on a forum ever and i apologize if ita long and boring! I am a healthy 27 yr old who has 2 kids both healthy, 9 & 4. One week ago I found out I was pregnant with my third. I was really excited! I had 4 hpts which includes a Dr. Office visit confirmation. Two days later I started bleeding, not too bad so I went to the ER bcuz thats what the nurse told me to do. They didn't see anything on the u/s which was normal bcuz I was barely 5 wks anyway. Doctor said my hcg level was really low so I was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage and told to go home amd wait to miscarry. The u/s tech told me that I may bleed more or have cramps from having the internal u/s done after I got home. Once home, I bled more and had pretty bad cramps with some blood clots. Its pretty much subsided now with a lil blood here and there. Im sorry this is soo long but I want to ask my question once I've laid it all out clear. I do have a u/s scheduled in 2 more days which my doctor ordered since twins do run in my fam on both sides. So my question is...... Could I still be pregnant through that? say maybe a miscarriage with a twin or I've heard of other issues where it looks like a miscarriage but turns out your still pregnant. Could my hcg levels drop due to the possible miscarriage then rise again if I still have one viable fetus? Has anything like this happened to anyone? Hpt today-negative.

I MUST ADD: I know its probably slim to none I have a healthy baby actually still in here but I wanna know what the chances are and if ita happened to anyone else or something similar. I also know im probably grasping at straws and grieving my miscarriage if it was a complete loss but as of today they can't tell me if im still pregnant or not until my u/s on wed- 2 days from now. Extra info: I would be 5.5 wks today I had the bleed start less than 2 days ago and its tapering off now. No more cramps.

If the HPT is negative I'd say you'd had a very early miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy.

With my miscarriage I got a positive test at 16dpo that was quite faint and started getting brown discharge.

Overnight it changed to cramping and bright red bleeding with clots.

Went for a scan and they saw an empty sac and my HCG was only 34 then it went up to 36 then right down to 20.

It is is possible to miscarry a twin and still be pregnant but it would still show as a positive on a pregnancy test.

I had positives for 2 weeks after my miscarriage.

I'm not trying to crush your hopes. Miracles are possible. I'd prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

If you've had a bleed and your hpts are now negative, then it does sound like you've lost the baby, I'm so sorry

It sound's like you have lost the baby. that is how mine was lost, exept all we saw on u/s was sac!! you will get through this I will be praying for you and sorry for you're loss.

I'm sorry Hun but it sounds lime you have miscarried. They are probably just doing the u/s as a precaution rather than expecting anything. A lot of people have miscarriages no matter what their age or how healthy they are. Its an unfortunate part of having kids.

Thank you all for your replies! Im pretty certain it was a complete miscarriage as it would be my first. I had all the classic symptoms of it but my doctor still insisted on making me do the u/s anyways even after I pleaded with her that I dont need it since im pretty sure im out of luck this round. She said she's seen this happen before and women still be pregnant as it wasn't a miscarriage but rather a tear of the placenta or a miscarried twin. So I guess ill just do it anyway. But hopefully ill be able to jump into the ttc forum eventually after my body evens itself out.

I'm so sorry, dear. It's a hard thing to go through. The ultrasound is probably to make sure that you've passed everything...some women retain some of the "products of pregnancy", and then need a D&C to avoid infection. At your early gestation, I doubt this will be necessary, but it's good they're checking it out.

Thank you ladies! I stopped bleeding after two days and feel better alreday so we have already began ttc again. My doctor said if i felt fine, there was no harm. I know my hcg level was at 8 the day I started the miscarriage and I had no pregnancy Symptoms at all. Although today I started getting nauseas and my boobs started to hurt. I know this isn't left over from the mc because my levels were very low (8) and i feel everything came out just fine. I did have s*x one week prior to the mc and yesterday...Both unprotected of course. Any explanation as to the weird pregnancy type symptoms and why they wouldn't start until today? I'm not trying to create symptoms of pregnancy, I just woke up this way today.

I've had a miscarriage and syptoms come and go for a while. Your body still believes it is pregnant.

However, that being said there was a woman on the March forums who got told she had a miscarriage, went on thinking she had one, then she ended up having a scan much later on and found out she was still pregnant.

Were you filling a pad quickly? The doctors told me that you need to worry about miscarriage if you're filling 2-3 pads an hour and having clots the size of your fist/hand.

I had quite a bit of bleeding (4-5x throughout my pregnancy so far), and baby is still fine. I don't want to give false hope, but I'd still go in for that ultrasound to see what's going on. They could only see a gestational sac at 5w4d, and two days later (I bled again) they say a yolk sac, fetal pole and the very faintest heartbeat.

I did have bleeding but it wasn't filling a pad an hour. It was sort of heavy though and I did have some tissue pass but I do tend to have the same type of things happen during a heavy period. I have heard of women having miscarriages only to find out they are still pregnant bc their dates were off or miscarried a twin or had SCH. However I dont have hope that's my case at all. Even though this would be my first MC I just feel its passed. I guess ill wait til the u/s which I have in a few hours. Thanks for the help and support ladies I really appreciate it. I dont have any hopes up but rather just wanting to know my body is ok after all this is good enough a result even if there is no baby in there

I'm sorry you're going thru this. I've had 3 miscarriages and I've never bled enough to fill a pad an hour either. With my early losses I've not experienced passing clots either. Miscarriages can be experienced differently by different people. I have always been told by my OB that any bleeding should be looked in to bc it's not normal to bleed in pregnancy, although it can happen and is common for some women to bleed. If you've had a negative test since the bleeding, then I would guess that you did pass everything. your doctor may (and mine has done this) want to do an ultrasound to be sure there is nothing left as that can be dangerous. (can cause infection if left too long)
