Doctor said our infertility wasn't legitimate?

My fiancee and I have been TTC for over a year now (since Oct 2010 when I came off the BCP). My cycles have been so irregular (28 days to 60 days) that I have prob ovulated 8 times in the past year. We got pregnant in August, but didnt find out until the middle of september when I took a pregnancy test and blood tests came back showing I was pregnant, but I ended up having a miscarriage. My doctor said since we didn't try for 12 cycles and since we did concieve we can't be classified as infertile so they are reluctant to do anything. This is despite my fiancee having 4% sperm morphology (count 204 million, motility 61%, vitality 87%). And my periods are terribly abnormal.

Wouldn't we be classified as infertile?

First of all I'm very sorry for you loss. I'm sure that was heartbreaking for you.
With that said,I can understand your concern about the possibility of infertility. I do understand what the doctor means. Since you did get pregnant chances are you will get pregnant again. BC can really mess with your cycles for awhile after coming off of it. I hope you get a BFP very soon and deliver a healthy baby. In the mean time as hard as it is, try not to stress. That can be really hard I know! Trust me I know! As far as fiancees sperm. I don't know a lot about the morphology part, but he has a lot more sperm than my DH and the doctor isn't worried about us because it only takes 1 sperm to create the baby. Good luck to you!

were your cycles abnormal before you went on bcp? If he won't treat you as an infertile patiant then maybe you can ask him to find out the reason for your irregular cycles.

tbh your husbands sa isn't that bad its not ideal but it isn't bad

think of it this way of 204million sperm almost 12.5 million are normally shaped.

Bad morphology can effect how they swim and how they are able to penetrate an egg

but of 204million sperm 124.5million swim normally

Alot of doctors don't even consider sperm morphology as being that important.

If you don't think your doctor is right try a new one ask them to prescribe you low dose clomid and if your not pregnant in a couple of cycles then try iui. Where are you from because the beauty of having to pay for your own doctoring is that the doctors work for you.

I am sorry about your mc but please take comfort in the fact that you have gotten pregnant naturally once so it can happen again.
I reccomened that you start charting if you are not already that way you know if/when you are ovulating.

Your GP would probably be reluctant to look at your irregular cycles until you've been off BCP for at least a year as it can still affect your cycles for up to 18 months after stopping taking it. As the others said you feel pregnant once in the time you were off BCP so they will probably think that there is a chance you will fall again. Also your body may need time to settle down after the miscarriage. I would give it 6 months and see what happens with trying not to worry and if nothing and your cycles are still irregular go back to your GP. You could try taking some conception vitamins or B6 which could help your cycles.

You need to be investigated for PCOS. Or whatever is cause erratic cycles- they shouldn't be like that. I wouldn't consider you to be infertile but there is definitely something up that should be investigated. Good luck xx

RE the morphology- don't worry about 4% is the new acceptable level set by the WHO. Also with a count that high- wow!!! You should not be worrying about DH in the slightest! Everything is great. Morphology could be better but as I said 4% is now ok. xx

I reluctantly have to agree with the others in regards to the infertility. If you haven't fallen preggo after a year since you mc, try talking to your doc again. I know how you feel and if you ever need someone to talk to about this, feel free to pm me.

You don't sound infertile, but the irregular cycles sound like a pain and will make it take longer for you to conceive..

There are lots of natural remedies you could try to fix your cycles over the next few months, if it goes on and you can'nt get pregnant the DR will have to take you more seriously. I had to go a few times before they would listen.

I think Agnus Castus and Vit B6 maybe help with your cycles, reflexology sorted mine, you could try that? You could have PCOS though surely you can hav a quick scan for that? How about CD3hormone tests did he offer you that? LH and FSH should have a ratio of as close to 1:1 as possible and testosterone would probably be raised if you had PCOS ... i thought i had it but all test have come back to say i do not, the ones i had are the ones listed above.

Morphology is a hard one, there are ladies on here who have gotten a BFP wih lower than 4% Theres lots of vits DH can take for morphology.

Flax seed oil - for the omega 3 its really important for sperm formation.


there are loads more... go to google and do some research my DH has 1% morphology and is on the lot

as the others have sai, you hve proven you can conceive, i am so sorry you had a M/C I know its probably not much comfort, bu it does mean you can conceive and theres a really good chance you will do so again.
