Hello there everybody,

Just wondered how everyone had got on with their doctors, i told my doctor i was ttc and he told me i would be fine to conceive and that i wouldnt need to have blood tests or anything done but i have read in a few places that you do need them done??

Any help or advise anyone?? xx

Hello Misspollard21!

I am not quite sure what you are trying to ask here.....How long have you been TTC? If it has only been less than a year, then the doctors will not do any further testing. The reason being alot of times it takes up to a year for the average couple to conceive naturally and there is no need to interfere.

However, if you have been TTC for over a year, then yes, you need to have some tests done to help narrow things down. Has your man had his sperm checked? That is usually the first step. If he is good, then they usually start looking into you, by checking your hormone levels (blood tests), sonogram (check for cysts), and HSG test (where they inject radioactive dye into your uterus and tubes to check for blockages OR flush any blockages out.) I recently had the HSG test done and my tubes are clear, but because of the pain I was in, doctor says I probably had a blockage that was flushed out during the process.

So, it really depends on what you are asking lol. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me :) Good luck on your baby adventure!

I don't think you need to have any blood tests done unless there are problems. However, I would recommend asking to have your MMR checked to make sure you are still immune. If you are not, you need to have a booster before pregnancy (if you find out when you are pregnant, they generally will not give you the booster as it can be a risk to your pregnancy).

they usually dont test for anything unless you have been ttc awhile, and everywhere is different. here if you are healthy you have to wait 18 months. i was refereed early because i was diagnosed with PCOS due to irregular periods! good luck to you though!

You don't have to have any particular tests done to TTc. I had a physical done and mentioned my Dr. I was planning to TTC 5 months from then. They did blood work as part of my physical.

I took blood tests once I told my GP we were TTC, just because I know that I have Alpha Thalassemia Trait
