Doctors visit - where to start?

After ttc for 6 months or so without luck (sometimes because of timing issues as we are long distance) my husband and I are thinking of doctors visits to get checked out. Then I realized I am not sure where we start. A fertility specialist or my obgyn? And where would my husband go for a test - the urologist? One who specializes in sperm? Somewhere else? Normally I might ask my obgyn for a reference but we are in different cities during the week so that complicates things.

Most ladies start at their ObGyn, many do some initial tests and treatments. The first is a bunch of blood tests checking hormone levels. Then the HSG (dye test--google it) to see if your tubes are blocked. They often do some meds and IUIs, too. My DH got his sperm tested through regular dr, so I don't think he needs a specialist.

It's good to get checked out! GL to you!

LORDY!--do I understand this! My hubby works out of town for 17 days a month, home for 14--no he's not a truck driver (no disrespect intended towards drivers--thanks for what they do!)--but it definitely puts a crunch on BD'ing!

What Vonn said is on the mark; both me and my DH got tested because after a loss in 2013, we weren't getting pregnant and haven't used any form of birth control in years....his regular doc did his SA and when it was found to be low, he did get a referral to a urologist. I was offered the HSG, but when it was found the likelihood is DH, I didn't schedule one. DH still hasn't made it to the urologist, mainly because of him being out of town---next time he's back he'll go.

Fingers crossed for a healthy BFP for you very soon!
