Hello. I am 45 and OH is 54, we have decided to NTNP before I hit menopause and it's too late. (think I would always regret if i didn't and have been so broody recently) AF is regular and we are both quite healthy.
Does anyone know if the age of the father affects how long the sperm can survive?
We BD on Monday night and I ovulated later I think on Thursday night so 3 days after. I know that sperm can live upto 5 days but does this still apply for older mens?

Thanks ladies, was a bit of a random question really but it’s easy to over scrutinise everything! :)

I'm not sure either hon. I wudnt think so because u see men in there 60s having babies.
Good luck ttc hon. We will be trying for our last babs next year when I will be 41 and hubby nearly 46. Its wonderful seeing older womon get pregnant I hate it that theres such a huge thing about having babies past 35. It's so wrong.

The age of a woman affects the quality of eggs, in case of men - the quality of sperm.

I don't think so, if anything you can consult a fertility specialist. I'm doing IVF cause my tubes are tied(was forced to have them tied) and Wednesday me and my husband went for our lab results and I have eggs of a 25 year old and I'm 37 years old and my hubby is 42 and he has lots of swimmers.

for women the quality of eggs is important, that decreases after 40+, and for men the quality of sperm is crucial, that gets worse after the age of 55. x

My dh is going to be 60 next month. We’ve never had an issue with him. Best of luck!
