Hey Ladies,:flower:
I'm 99% sure I'll be diagnosed tomorrow at my Doctors appointment... and I'm wanting to go in not feeling lost... I've been researching the crap out of the topic... and I'm feeling a little lost when it comes to starting a PCOS diet... So if anyone has any links or tips to low GI/pcos diet I would be so grateful. :dust:to all!

hi i'm 27 and was dx with pco in may, it was a shock but wasn't at the same time as i always 'felt' something was wrong with me.

Im an ideal weight but would still like to get down to 10stone and i find it really hard, if i lose few pounds it always goes back on within couple of weeks!
so i read alot about pcos too and i have just found that eating fresh fruit, raw veg and whole grains are the way forward! also eat smaller meals and snack in between on nuts, oat cakes, raw veg and low fat yoghurts. And also drink green teas and loads of water! I have been doing the tlc plan (activia yoghurts) online and it has only been a week and have lost 2 pounds! I lost another 3 pounds before starting it just by eating healthier.

Sorry it's a bit long winded lol
Also recommend the ultimate pcos guide book, it explains everything about it and things you can do to reduce symptoms etc.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the response:) I really appreciate all that information! I'm finding that the web sites etc are so over whelming and I just didn't even know where to start!

I know THE PCOS diet.
Unfortunately the book I have about it is not in english.
However, what you need to do is go low glycemic. GI.
If you have PCOS and really want to get fertile you have to stay away from first of all: every thing white: sugar (of course) white bread, rice (all kinds), white pasta. You can only eat slow carbs and even those should not be too many. This includes full corn bread and full corn pasta as well as some fruits like apples, pears, strawberries etc. Raw Vegetables are free, you can eat as much as you want of that. You can/should eat lots of fat (most healthy fat) and protein. Be aware that potatoes and boiled carrots are bad in the PCOS diet. Carrots are only free as long as they are raw. Eat nuts, meat, egg, avocadoes, cheese etc and you can eat some 70% chocolate.
This diet is very hard and there is of course a lot more to it. The key is to not eat anything that affects the blood sugar too much. But if you can implement this stuff you have a good chance at seeing improvement.
I was on this diet a few times, but never lasted more than 3 weeks before I gave up. However, this diet was the only thing that seemed to make a big difference and fast, in my gyn health. Once I even conceived because I was on the diet a few days at the beginning of the cycle.
A good idea for breakfast is a Full corn bread with cheese, meat and egg. This is a fantastic low GI breakfast and it is quite filling.
I hope this gives you an idea.
Amber
PS As great results as this have for women with PCOS and infertility it seems at least as promising for male issues.

Hi Amber - thank you soooo much for your advise. I heard that anything "fishy" is good to! I have joined a gym and should hopefully start tomorrow (my husband's bday is today :winkwink:). I got rid of soda (only water) and in the morning I have a whole grain wheat sandwhich. Ham, white egg, chese. I also have 100% natual orange juice (hopefully that's good for me!) I have kept away from all white bread (whole grain only) and have began to walk to get everything...even to buy milk i'll walk about 2 blocks to go and get it. Baby steps!! Any more advise can help...

I'm all ears :coffee:

Super, thats the way to go. I am also myself "enjoying" a low GI meal just now. Carots with homemade humus and a peace of full corn bread with cheese, egg and on the other half a load of mayonaise and shrimps.
Don't fear fat. If you cut down a lot on the carbs eating a diet rich in fat and proteine will actually make most people loose weight. Also because low GI foods don't make your appetite grow, because it leaves the blood sugar alone.

I forgot to mention that you can eat M&M peanuts too. They are low glychemic because of the nut inside;)
Of course fish is very good, all meat is free on the GI because they are only proteine (and fat)

Oh and by the way, I just read on the internet that as little as one gram of cinnamon a day will make your blood sugar more stable. It is very good if you have insulin resistance. You can have a bit of cinnamon in your tea.

Also! Exercise is of course amazing for PCOS. It will make you build muscles and that is a great factor againsk insulin resistance as well over weight. I wish you all the best with that!

As for me I neither have PCOS or overweight but I went on the low GI diet a good while back and was amazed at what a difference it did for my mucus chart. It immediately ( I am talking within 1-2 weeks) made a huge difference.

I am sure that if I could do the diet I would be a mom by now.... But I am really bad at it.
Sorry it got a bit long. I wish you all the best
Amber and let me know how it goes:)

PS 100% Orange juice is not bad but since it is carbs by itself try to limit it to one glas. Also, if you eat, lets say a banana, which is really on the edge of what is allowed if you eat low GI, eat some almonds with the banana. The fat from the nuts will make the effect on your blood sugar less.

I'm going to use you as my nutritionist! :happydance:

How about a Strawberry, berry, and banana shake with skim milk?? That's what I drink at work in the mornings but I guess it has too much sugary right? But it's so good!

I'm starting to go and exercise today (my work has a gym) and try to lose a few pounds before I go in and see the RE. My husband is going for his SA on the same day! :happydance:

Hi there,
Just wrote and then it disappeared :/
Anyways, your breakfast is problematic because it is only made of carbs. Do you know curd cheese? It is a good proteine source, and if you can eat that with a small banana and on top almonds/nuts, then you have a perfect Low GI breakfast. I am not saying that eating this way is easy but for many people it pays of. (This diet is used by a gyno where I am from and he has amazing succes with it)
If only it was not so hard...
Good luck
Amber

Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS on 15 feb...i acted fine in front of my mom but when i was talkin to my boyfriend i couldnt stop myself from crying...I always loved kids and when i heard the doc telling me the risks of PCOS i was just so scared. And after couple of days i joined a gym and lost 1 kg in a week.I am also insuling resistant and doc has told me strictly to avoid sugar. But since this is my 3rd week and i just cudnt stop myself from anything sweet now.So i told my mom to make sure i dont eat n e thing sweet no matter what...
My next appoinment is on 18th sept and hopefully the doc will find improvements in my case...sitting with crossed fingers...
