When my health visitor first said that my Daughter had silent reflux, she suggested before I get any medication, to try changing her milk to the comfort

I did this & for approx 4 days I thought it was helping, then her symptoms seemed bad again, so I went to the Doctors & was prescribed ranintidine

She now is doing much better :happydance:

However, I am now wondering if she 'really' needs to be on comfort milk? We are going to Australia soon & if she was on 1st, it would be so much easier, with pre-made cartons...But of course I do not want to upset the way things are now :nope:

I rang 'Aptamil' & they said they couldnt see why she was on it, as its for 'colic & constipation'

:wacko::wacko:Im so confused! :wacko::wacko:

It CAN help with reflux as its thicker, but personally i dont see how it helps silent reflux because silent reflux is just the acid (mainly) that irritates, not sick. X

Thats just what I have been thinking ~ Mmm, what to do?

Hmm.. id perhaps try weaning back onto first milk slowly. Are you using any meds? X

I think mayby I should wait until I get back from Australia, just in case :winkwink:

Yeah, my Daughter is on ranintidine :baby:

Ah well the ranitidine should help by itself. You could try a bottle here and there of first milk and see if it makes any difference? If i have run out of bottles or going on a long trip i use first cartons (using comfort due to constipation and reflux) x

Kelly we've had 6 months of hell with silent reflux, my lo was on comfort milk, losec, hypo milks and still not improving... She was on the verge on going into hospital to have a NG tube into her stomach and for them to try and make her more comfortable. The thought of this happening broke my heart. I really was at the end of my tether last week so decided to phone cow & gate spoke to a lovely lady (Christina) who talked me through everything I've tried with Isla. We decided that I would try her back on 1st milk, cartons NOT powder as she seemed to think that wouldn't help her and OMG I have a different baby. She's taking her bottles in less than 15 mins instead of an hour, no more arching, refluxing, wind, explosive nappies, just feeding like she should be, pooping like a trooper and finally sleeping sooooooo much better. HTH I would try it you never know you could have the same outcome as us. xxxxx

Thats fantastic news dinkiedoo :happydance:

Why did they say use the cartons & not powdered?

I really am confused, should I try & swap her back, or wait until we get back?:shrug:

She does have alot of wind on aptamil comfort, also her nappies are like nothing ive ever seen or smelt (& ive had 2 boys!).....Mmmm, confused :wacko::wacko:

Thank you sweetie... we went through exactly the same I was absolutely terrified of swapping back for fear of her getting worse and believe me she was awful poor baby..... They say that the cartons are made in a different way ie heat treated, easier digested and reduced lactose. As it's working I'm sticking with it quite expensive but I've got a different baby. Why not do what I did and that buy a 500ml carton tried her with one feed, she responded well to it. I then gave her comfort for the rest of the day she spat it out, arched, cried and was her usual. The next morning I hummed and hawed and thought what the heck she enjoyed it yesterday I'll try again and hey ho she woffed the lot, I tried comfort at the next feed, she did her usual. The following feed I gave her 1st milk and again she woffed the lot I never gave another bottle of comfort after that and my goodness how lovely having the convience of the cartons. One other think I've added is gaviscon to thicken it a little as toot used to the thicker milk. Give it a try and let me know how you get you've nothing to lose.

PS I've 2 boys too xx

The only thing is, my Daughter does drink her milk Ok now...Its just that she has alot of wind & terribly explosive poops (very messy, especially when out!)

Dont they say that the cartons are slightly thicker anyway?

I do have a whole 'crate' of aptamil 1st cartons in the cupboard, so I could swap over slowly, but I am just not sure??:shrug::wacko::shrug:

Isla was same in fact so windy with the milk I think it made it too difficult to drink only other thought I had there wS to try toot on a probiotics. Solgar do one from birth called abcdophilius. May help could try that n if no joy try her with the first milk the worst it can do is make her uncomfortable but it'll soon pass x

Not saying its gonna work forever just gotta help him poo now but we are 85% there
