Hey everyone

I just wondered what ur experiences of comfort milk are? Does it actually help with trapped wind and colicy type symptoms? Our LO is on sma gold, but she gets terrible trapped wind, and often spends ages screaming whilst obviously trying to fArt, and just seems very uncomfortable from feeding quite often (screaming, raising her legs etc). She also seems to have a bit of refluxShe was born with a bowel malrotation which was completely fixed by surgery at 2 days old, so apart from a little EBM at first in hospital shes been pretty much exclusively formula fed. Just hate to see her suffer and wondered if people found it was worth making the switch? Also, would u recommend aptamil or the cow and gate one?

many thanks!

No such thing as Sma comfort, only aptamil and cow and gate make comfort milk. X

Thanks, had just realised what I'd written. Changed it now.

Personally, it didn't help my little boy with his colicky symptoms...if anything, it made the farts much worse (both more frequent and more powerful!). It made his poos very loose and smelly...not nice when teamed with lots of powerful wind! This was on aptamil comfort (originally on sma gold like yourself):

He was diagnosed with silent reflux a few weeks ago and we changed back onto normal aptamil first milk on the doctor's recommendatiion (she didn't seem to think that the comfort milk was helping him).

Despite his reflux being more under control thanks to the medication he's on, he still has trouble getting wind up and if it doesn't come up as a burp, it really bothers him getting it out at the other end...i have tried anti colic bottles, infacol, dentinox, gripe water etc but nothing seems to work!

I shall probably have to ride it out until he grows out of the colic!

Obviously, this is just my experience and what doesnt work for me and my baby might just do the trick for you and yours...might be worth a try x

I used it and im the process of moving him off it back on to stage 1.

My little boy was full of trapped wind and the comfort milk + dr browns bottles seemed to help him alot. So personally id say yeah its worth it :D

I used cow and gate as its exactly the same as aptamil comfort but £1.50 cheaper.

Maybe worth a try but my LO didn't like it. It is for colic and constipation but my LO didn't have constipation. I put him on Hipp Organic (after SMA and C&G comfort) he was better but using TT variflow teats and colief helped (reduces the lactose in the milk).

He also has carobel to thicken the milk but that is for his reflux. :flower:

I tried it for colic and constipation for Aidan and found it made him go the other way!! Didnt really do much for colic but he couldnt stop pooing and farting! And they stank! Also turned his poos explosive and green!! Not nice! We went back to Aptamil 1 and infacol but also got give colief by the doctor, although it was supposed help with his colic it seems to have done wonders for his pooing too!! Normal poos but no more straining and trapped wind!! Also switched to Dr Browns bottles which have been fab for wind!! x x x

My LO was on SMA for his first 6 weeks and suffered badly from colic. We changed to C&G Comfort and it helped him immediantly, I would definitely recommend it going from our experience

My LO was totally fine for the first week on cow & gate normal first stage milk but then she started crying, fussing, kicking/pulling up her legs and arching her back when feeding so at 2 weeks old we tried her on cow & gate comfort and within a few hours of having it she was then feeding normally. She did still struggle with trapped wind even with dr browns bottles but that suddenly stopped at 5 months. x

My LO started off on EBM, then moved onto SMA Gold but it really didn't suit her. She had tummy ache and didn't poo for 3 days but was straining a lot. She had trapped wind and was grunting throughout the night and was clearly uncomfortable. It seemed to be too rich for her. It made me so sad I bought some Aptamil Comfort and haven't looked back. It made a big difference and she's been fine ever since. She rarely has trapped wind now and is a happy bunny :)

My second youngest was great on comfort milk; he was like a different baby. He had slimy, green, mucusy poo on breastmilk due to allergies to various things via my milk which I hasten to add is a rare problem; but on comfort milk his poo was nice and yellow and he was calm and comfortable and happy and smiley. Though I'm not normally a fan of aptamil looking at both brands of comfort milk; I would personally recommend the aptamil one as the cow & gate version used to be identical but about a year ago they added in fish and soya, both things which can cause issues for babies with colic and constipation so no idea why they put them in, the aptamil version is still fish and soya free xx

Thanks so much everyone. Tried cow and gate version as shop didnt have aptamil and it made her so much worse!!! She was literally full of wind, she was so uncomfortable. So were on the aptamil version, interesting about the fish and soya summer rain. It seems to be working well so far, fingers xd. Thanks again xx

It helped with my sons constipation loads he hasn't been constipated whilst being on it.
