My son's hair smells bad, I just gave him a bath last night. Even after the bath it didn't smell great. I have noticed some cradle cap but its not all over I don't think, it's more on the front of his hair line. Could it be anything else that is making his hair smell? Is there anything I can do for it?

Can't say I'd ever noticed my lo smelling... Does he itch it a lot?

What do you use when you bath him?

No it doesn't seem to itch at all. I use the Johnson's and Johnson's soap. I can't really explain the smell. It's almost has a faint sour smell to it.

We used j&j at first and it seemed to make it worse. We tried dentinox which helped a bit but didn't get rid of it completely. Still not sure about the smell though, maybe check with your hv.

I will look into the dentinox, I have never heard of it though. Do you think the smell be from sweating? He does get a little sweaty sometimes.

Are you sure it's not coming from his neck? My LO can get a bit of a smelly neck if I don't clean it thoroughly daily x

No, it's not from his neck. I have to be careful and make sure I clean his neck really good too. The smell doesn't really smell like that though.

I've never known cradle cap to smell. Nathan has a bit of cradle cap and it doesn't smell. It's just flaky / scaly.

Yes could well be. Actually thinking about my neice was a bit of a sweaty baby and she had a slight sour smell about her sometimes. I'd forgotten to be honest because she'd grown out of ot by 1ish.

J&J is not good for babies! DS did have a slight...cheesey smell if he hasn't had a bath in a week + (I am not on for bathing every night), but I do use dentinox if I see anything. The rest of the time I use Burts Bees baby wash/shampoo. Not cheap but 1 bottle lasts a year!

Yes, my sons head had a strange smell when he had cradle cap, dentinox helped :)

Thanks! I finally looked it up online and I'm gonna order it. His whole head doesn't smell. It's just the top and I think that is where the cradle cap is. Since J&J is not good for babies, what kind is? Is Aveeno a good brand for them?

Yes, cradle cap can smell. M's head smelled a bit sour. I put some olive oil on his head (not too much), let it soak for 15 mins then put him in the bath and massaged his head with a wet wash cloth to get rid of the flakes. I then washed his hair with his Burts bees shampoo. Doing this totally cleared it up instantly.

He had the weird smell on just the top where the cradle cap was too, it's wasn't a horrific smell but it was definitely caused by the cradle cap, when the cradle cap went the odd smell went :)

I only used the dentinox and it done the trick x

yes my ds' had a funny smell when he had it too. You can use dentinox as normal shampoo too. x

Yes as others has said cradle cap can smell a bit it's the excess of oils and dead skin cells that cause the smell I think. Thankfully with this LO we've had no cradle cap at all but found with the others that coconut oil was great xx
