dont like character toys!!

am i the only one who doesnt really like character toys!? there seems to be sooooo many of them!
Charlie doesnt like any particular character i mean he likes to watch tv but hes not THAT in to it! hes not like In the Night garden Obsessed or Thomas the tank! He likes trains Yes but hes never watched thomas the tank ever and probably hasnt got a clue who he is!
Same with everything! i was looking for a bean bag chair there all bob the builder, In the night garden, Post man pat, Dinsney cars!

Im just strugeling to find toys for him that arnt character ones!
even books puzzles everything the whole toy market seems too have gone in the night garden and thomas the tank crazy!

TBH i have never thought about it but yes your right it is mainly based on characters but then again there are brand toys available like Tomy/Fisher price/ ELC and my Jack has dozens of books that are not character ones......mostly bought in shops like the works/Mothercare/smiths etc.

I don't like buying character toys/merchandise either (Elyse has watched some TV but not anymore).. for books, I tend to stick to "classic" kids books that I read when I was young, for toys I go for Fisher-Price etc.. don't think we have one toy that is Dora/Thomas/etc...

Actually we have some Winnie the Pooh stuff! But other than that not much really. Her ball pit is going to be Princesses.

see i dont mind winnie the pooh because thats classic! Princesses i recon if i had a girl i could do that yeah but dora and everything else its just blah! Charlie has TWO thomas trains both exactly the same tiny little ones that my gran bought for him! really i think he'll only get stuff like that if other people get it but it makes the choice harder for me! example there was this electronic game thing that you steped on n stuff n lernt things, GREAT idea but it was in the night garden! so its all Iggly Piggle and Ninky Nonks or whatever! (tasha you probably dont even get in the night garden over there do you!?) anyway its stupid

Elyse & I don't watch it though We have about 4 different channels with kids shows on all day, the one has a bunch of cbeebies and then Canadian-made shows, IF we watch TV it's Playhouse Disney! She particularly enjoys "Bunnytown" and "Johnny and the Sprites"... but they don't have toys... and I'm convinced it's the songs more than it is the characters she likes.

BTW I was in Wal Mart today and this little girl was standing in the shopping cart screaming about Thomas (the Tank Engine) because her parents would only buy her one Thomas toy..

I hate them too , never bought anything for Ella character as she has no intrest in tv.
Carly had one fifi doll hardly played with and one dora doll which she chose and cherises.

But Cant stand em! I hate ITNG too

I refuse to buy anything with characters on, we don't have a tv anyway so Aaron has no idea who they are! It does make buying things hard though. I haven't even been able to find a plastic stool for him to reach the bathroom sink that doesn't have silly characters on it!

Yep im the same! Dont like seeing kids dressed head too toe in character clothes drives me mad! like i say at the age he is not yes he does LIKE in the night garden and i have no problem with him watching it, he does like other tv programs too but he doesnt like them enuff too relate who they are too toys if you get me?
If i got him an iggle piggle teddy he'd just look at me like i was stuid!
He knows his thomas trains are CHOO CHOO's but has no idea there on the telly!

In years to come I am sure both our boys will be asking for Thomas the Tank, ITNG, Spiderman (you know what I mean) everything so I will make the most of unbranded toys while I can.

Afterall they are our babies not a walking advert (or crawling in Jacobs case) x

I'm the same. Worse for clothes though, my mum buys them all the time. HATE them. Sneak them on ebay while she's not looking!

I also don't like them on principle. I hate all merchandising. That said, we do have some ITNG things for Byron as he really loves it and it makes him smile and laugh. We've picked things carefully though. We got a talking macca pacca as his cousin has one that he liked when he was small and it made him smile. We got a ninky nonk as he's got no pull/push toys yet and laughs at the ninky nonk. But we got these because they were the characters. I hate how any object (bean bag, chair, coat, umbrella whatever) has to be branded with a character. I object to babies and children being made to be advertising billboards. If I want a hat set I will go out of my way to find one that isn't branded.
