You'll have to bare with me as I'm pooped!
At 3:30am on Saturday my waters went. I sat up in bed and felt a trickle then waddled/ran to the loo just in time.
Phoned the birthing centre who asked me to come in around 6/7 as my blood pressure on Friday had been really high. When we got there it was all okay, excepy they could see meconium in my waters. It wasn't a lot, but meant that I had to go the other hospital 30 minutes away. I was getting really mild contractions every 8 minutes by this time.
We arrived there at about 8 and they decided the best thing to do was to kick start my labour. They put the drip in and hooked me up to monitors. Once the contractions started to increase I asked for an epidural. I was so set on not having one, but this wasn't the type of birth I had pictured...
I had to have continuous fetal monitoring as every time I had a contraction his heart rate would drop really low. This meant the midwife had to keep turning my drip off and on to stop contractions.
By 4:20 I was fully dilated and could push. They had been worried if things hadn't progressed as quickly that I would have ended up in theatre. I started pushing and ended up pooing, I didn't believe women when they say you don't caring , but you really don't.
I can't remember why, I think because his heart rate was dropping, that the doctor had to be called in to check me. They decided it was best if I had a assisted delivery with vontuse. My legs were put into the air and covered so I didn't get blood on me. Then the doctor did her thing and three contractions he was out. After he had been checked over we had about an hour of skin to skin. It was amazing! I know I said throughout my whole pregnancy I'd never do it again, but I so would!
He is such a calm baby. We've almost got breastfeeding down and at the moment all he does is sleep and suck his fingers.
Sorry if none of it makes sense, I've written it bit by bit when I get a free moment! I've probably missed out loads and my iPhone autocorrect probably messed a few words up!
Can't figure out how to get a picture here from my phone, but hopefully the link will work.
