Hi all :)

We've been using Dr Brown's bottles for ages now, as they did wonders in controlling my LO's wind problems. We still love them, but we're starting to think we may hit a problem shortly...

Up until now, Romilly hasn't tended to take much milk in each sitting. However, she's accelerated to the point of taking 7oz bottles - which of course means 8oz of fluid, by the time the powder bulks things out. That's not an issue in itself, the problem is coming because she's starting to drain the occasional bottle. And I can't make up an 8 scoop bottle, because Dr Brown's bottles won't take the resulting 9oz :dohh:

So far we've been lucky in that the times she has finished the bottle, she's kinda stopped feeding at the moment when the bottle runs out, so hasn't been upset or showing signs of wanting more. But obviously I'd be far happier at being able to make up an 8 scoop bottle, so she has the option!

So, couple of questions! Does anyone know if the Dr Brown lids & pipettes will fit on any other bottle? If not, can anyone recommend a good 9oz anti-colic bottle? She won't take Mam Ultivent (we tried, she hated it!). I've been looking at the Born Free ones, anyone used them?

Thanks in advance ladies :flower:

dunno hun, but if you cant find anything you could always make up 2 4oz bottles, or use readymade :)

I can't afford to use readymade constantly  We used it for a while when we got a fantastic deal on the 500ml cartons in Costco, but they haven't had them since.

I'd already thought of using 2 bottles, but that starts to get into the realms of having to potentially take out 6 or 8 bottles with me if I'm going out for a whole day :dohh:

Thanks for the suggestions though :)

Do you have any of the smaller 4oz bottles? If I need a 9oz bottle for Earl I make up the extra oz in the smaller bottle and then add it to the 8oz in the Mothercare bottles (te scales only go up to 8oz but ours will hold the volume). Could you top the feed up, or pour it into the Dr Browns bottles once she's half way through?

Hrrm, adding it in might work. I do have a small bottle still, a free Breastflow one I was sent :) I'll have a go with adding it in after it's been mixed. I've never tried that, only tried making up the 9oz and it failed miserably

Is that the ones that TT do now with the pipette thingy in them, similar to the Dr Brown's idea? We tried the normal TT CTN bottles at the beginning, and they were hopeless for my LO. The Dr Brown ones are the only ones we've found so far that don't give her horrendous wind problems. I hadn't thought about the TT pipette ones. Although they're about the same price as the Born Free ones I was looking at, so I guess that would still come down to having to buy more bottles. Unless they sell the pipettes separately, I do still have 4 CTN bottles in the cupboard.

I tried Aimee-Lou's suggestion, and it did work better than trying to make up the 9oz directly in the bottle, in that it just pretty much fit in, just on the "do not fill above this line" line :) Thing is, it still leaked when we swirled the bottle, and when we tightened the lid :dohh: I'll limp on by with the bit of leaking just now I think, but I'm fairly sure I'm going to have to invest in some new bottles. Darn and blast it

yeah we use the tt ctn anti colic ones! theyre great!!

You have to buy the whole bottle as it doesnt fit into the other ones lol... we tried to use them with out the little thing in side to see if it worked... sad to say it just leaks. :dohh:

With the teet folding in on itself like some people have said... if you use the little brush that is surplied with them to clean the air whole it doesnt tend to happen as much... also if you pull it out when you see LO is sucking to hard it helps! x

Breastflow bottles gave my LO a lot of wind. You could just use cartons when youa re out so dont have to take extra bottles out and when at home use 2 bottles?

I make an 8oz feed in the Doctor Brown bottles and it doesn't leak

I don't shake it to mix it though, I stir it using the pipette thingy. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Not sure what I'll do if I need to make up more though. The aimee's idea of making in a smaller bottle and adding it in sounds good though

hiya, i use dr browns bottles to feed lo.
i make it up in another bottle, heat it, give it a good shake and then transfer into dr browns.
sophie has been taking 8oz bottles for about 8weeks now at least and even though it goes over the line your not supposed to fill above i've never had a problem?!
have you tried it, in my honest opinion, it doesnt matter, wouldnt put anymore that that in it though
hope this helps!
