I thought I should post my experience with having a premmie.(long story)

I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks and 6 days. The doctors don't know what triggered it but I'm pretty sure it was because my hubby and I had sex that morning. I remember after my husband left for work that I started to get these pretty painful period like pains(this was around 6AM). I blew it off as, oh just another pregnancy pain, seeing as we go through so many, I didn't want to worry over nothing. Just that past week I had been to the hospital because a drop of fetal movement so I didn't want to be over paranoid. As the time went by, they started getting worse and they were coming very irregular, every 2-10 mins. I still didn't want to go in, ( I know, stupid me. I haden't read anything about preterm labor) I was still trying to deny the fact that I was in labor, it was still too early.
The bad thing was, is that my grandma had an appointment that morning with a skin specialist. She doesn't speak any english so I had to go in with her to translate.Nobody else would be able to go in with her and my dad was at work until after the appointment was over, he was coming to pick us up. I knew there was no way for her appointment to be rebooked until months later (she had to get a biopsy(sp?) done to make sure it wasen't cancer) I was stuck! So during this entire procedure, I'm translating and dealing with labor pains. It was all really surreal. They had no idea I was in labor lol until my grandma mentioned it. The look on their faces was so priceless. Thats when they started to hurry up and trying to get us out of there ASAP.
We got picked up at around 9AM and my dad drove me straight to the hospital. During all this time I still haden't reached my husband. He's a truck driver and I phoned his dispatch, told them to get him to phone me back that it was an emergency, that I might be in labor. Later I found out that they haden't even told him .
Anyways, we got to the hospital. They checked me and I was already 3cm dilated. I was upset that they never tried to stop the labor, they gave me nothing and just said that they would see if the labor stopped on its own. Yeah right.
A few hours later my husband finally showed up. I had never been so happy in my life, if it wasen't for him being there, I honestly think I would have gone insane with worry. The pains continued, and I kept dilating. The doctors started to talk to me about what might happen after I gave birth, the chances, that he might need help breathing etc. Thankfully they managed to give me the steriod shot (don't remember if they gave me one or two). After 18 hours of labor I finally caved and got the epi, I was feeling the need to push and I wasen't fully dilated yet. The labor continued until it was around 22 hours into it, thats when I was fully dilated. I pushed for 2 hours, at the end I was so exhausted that they ended up using the vaccum and the forceps:cry:.
Drake was born at 5:13AM on June 17th/2004, weighing in at 4lbs and 11 ounces, he was beautiful. I got to hold him for a min before they took him to the neonatal floor. The only problem he had was breathing, he needed a couple of days of help but after that he was breathing on his own. I remember seeing him in the NICU and my god, every time I had to leave it was like having my heart ripped out. I just wanted to take my baby home. During the next two weeks and half he continued to gain weight and get stronger. He finally came home on July 5th/2004. The happiest day of my life:cloud9:. Here's some pics of him when he was in the NICU

He's doing great now, 3 and half, talking, and just full of life. You would never know he was a premmie.
