I think my pregnancy hormones are getting to me slightly here, haha!

I have read "put clothes away in draws" several times by several different people on these forums over the last few days. I have literally never heard them referred to as draws before and it's winding me up waaaay more than it should!

Is "draws" the same thing or are people making a typing mistake, or is "draws" used instead of "drawers" in certain places?

I'm doubting myself that drawers is correct now.

I have always called them a "chest of drawers" but I have seen them called a "chest of draws" and it's making my head hurt, lol. Just because I have seen it soooo many times in the last few days - the first time I was sure it was a typo but now I think I'm wrong ...

Nope you are right its drawer. Its commonly misspelt because it sounds like draw.

I've always used drawers... never heard someone say just draws!

Glad it isn't just me ladies! I have literally never hear them calle draws until a few days ago and then I read it loads of times and I thought I was losing my mind! Baby brain has been terrible this week!

I say draws so do alot of people i know but i would spell it drawers

It is drawers, the word always makes me think of Victorian drawers aka big knickers :haha:

I'd say 'Put something in a draw (drawer)' etc but yeah I'd spell it drawers

It's drawers. I thought "draw" was a southern US pronunciation, didn't realize it was said that way in the UK too.

are you supposed to say it like 'drawers' saying the E? i thought it was a silent E so you do say it like 'draws'
anyway thats how i say it but i do spell it drawers

Yep, it's "drawers," like everyone has said!

It drives me bonkers when I read "could of" or "would of" instead of "could have" or "would have," too. :haha:

oops i do that!! i hate when people say 'im board' drives me nuts

we say draws here lol but I spell it drawers. It's a funny word really isn't it 👀 the more you look at it and say it, the more it just doesn't look right!

I say it with the E as well! I say it like drawers and spell it accordingly - as far as I'm aware that is how is should be pronounced? I'm in Scotland.

One that I hate - and I think it is very much a Scottish thing - is people saying how instead of why. I'm a teacher and say I ask a pupil to put their gum in the bin - they often respond "how?" - meaning why. They get annoyed when I tell them "by standing up, walking towards the bin and placing the gum inside it" haha.

I also hate double negatives. Really frustrating lol. I guess I am the grammar police (although I know mines is far from perfect)

Board winds me up too. A girl I know posted "am board" constantly on Facebook. We were pretty good friends from school but I had to delete her as it annoyed me so much!!

I think Scottish and American people pronounce it 'drawers' :) Say it in different accents, you will see what I mean :haha: xx

It should be pronounced the same as draw, the pronounication drawer is someone who draws. (At least according to oxford dictionary).

I hate double negatives as well - I work as a legal editor so I am surrounded by grammar police (including myself).
