To those of you who have had a section before, how long afterwards were you able to drive again?

I had mine a week ago and I'm just wondering when I'll be able to get back behind the wheel again.

I live in the worst area ever with the worst public transport in the world - my baby will need to be seen by a doctor (those regular check up things) but they are about 20 miles away and getting there is a nightmare!

I waited until my 6 week check up - but was told then by my GP that it wasn't always necessary to wait that long! I'd check with your GP, if things are straightforward for you then you could be back on the road sooner with their permission?

If u feel u can drive and can do an emergency stop then u just need to check with your insurance company. I drove after 3 weeks x

DH made me wait 2 weeks to drive....but 8 days for sex :/ I could of drove after a week, I was fine!

It was the longest 2 weeks ever too, lol!!! I have 4 cars, one of them a classic...and had him in July..during car show season ;)

As rockstar said, if you feel okay to drive just check your insurance policy, as some might not cover you before your 6 week check up.

Alot of people i know have said they have all drove after 3 weeks. Im going to see how i feel and take it from there but def not before 2 weeks.

my hospital said they don't say 6 weeks anymore as it's just not necessary to wait that long, they told me to check with my insurers (who had no policy on it at all) and drive whenever I felt ready. I think I left it about 4 and a half weeks and by then boredom was killing me lol x

my 1st section i was driving 5 days post op(2 days after i got out hosp)
my 2nd section I was driving 6days post op (day after i got out hosp)

I believe it was about 1.5-2 weeks for me. probably would have been sooner had my hubby not taken time off after i had the babe.

i think it's so different with everyone though. depending on how you feel after the surgery.

I feel I could drive now, but I guess I need to check with my insurance.

Thanks for the responses ladies :)

When y'all say check with insurance, are y'all referring to health insurance (as in they won't cover injuries related to driving) or auto insurance (as in, not covered if you wreck your car)?

My midwife said as long as you can do emergency stop and look over your shoulder etc you are ok and this is normally three weeks. She said to go with other half to a quiet place and try. I drove at three weeks but was the getting the car seat in and out that caused me some issues so just take it steady when you do start xxx

I emailed my insurance company after having my c-section and was told if I was capable of doing an emergency stop driving was fine! I waited 3 weeks as any kind of pressure on my scar was painful so figured an emergency stop would hurt!!

Xxx

I'm referring to car insurance :D if ur not capable of driving ur car isn't covered!

Xxx
