Originally when lucas was born he was on the 25th percentile but gradually creeped up to the 50th percentile.... well his weight has been gradually dropping down, so on the advice of the hv i started feeding him on demand increasing his feeds, this hasn't helped and now he is on the 9th percentile.

the hv said she was concerned and i agreed and we discussed what else could be done and there really were 4 options; stick to breastfeeding as it is and hope that we can get the weight up, give him a feed in the middle of the night again, wean him or give him a formula feed a day. i said i would rather give him one bottle of formula a day than wean him

i do feel a bit sad but at least the majority of his feeds will be breastmilk and i'm going to express what he would usually take and freeze it so who knows we might be able to take the ff out once he starts weaning

I hope this helps my second child when he was born he weighed 7lb 10oz and at 18 weeks he weighed 13lb 8oz = 9th centile at 9 months when i stopped breastfeeding (due to my health) he weighed 15lb 14oz he was just below the 2nd centile, since then he has stayed between the 0.4th and the 2nd centile, weight and height at present is 3st 3lbs and 113.1cms and he is 9,
my daughter is 10mths today and only weighs 16lb 140z and she is only just above the 9th centile

have you got the breast from birth chart in his red book or the normal one as that can make a little difference

just keep going as long as he is putting on weight do not worry :hugs:

am using the one in his little red book, i am hopeful that the ff can help boost his weight then hoping that when he is old enough to be weaned onto solids i can bf him exclusively again and drop the ff but we'll see how it goes.

suppose these charts to account for the fact that all babies are different.

9th percentile is okay. I think you should just keep going as your are and if he drops anymore then you can re-evaluate? Good luck with whatever you choose to do X

How regular do you have him weighed - I think we can go too often at times.

Have a look at the WHO charts at the top of this board. Not all areas are using them in the red books so if you're not on the WHO tables they are from the 70s when most babies (like me! :D) were FF.

Dont beat yourself up hun. If it were me I'd prefer to give formula rather than wean too

:D

I would rather give ff too. Infact I do. My daughter has slow weight gain has dropped down to the 0.4 centile line. She has a ff in the evening too and it has made no difference what so ever. She still gains very small amounts. She is over 5 months now so I have introduced some small amounts of solids too. Let's hope it makes some difference!

Good luck hun and remember, as long as he is gaining weight and following a line, any curve will do, then it isn't that bad!!

:hugs: Caine moved from the 9th to 25th centile but he was on the 9th for a while. As I said on facebook I give one formula at night to settle him and BF all day etc and its not affected my supply...... hope whatever you do works out hun :hugs:
