Evening all

I have been told by a friend that Jasmine should be sleeping through the night now - she will be 12 weeks old tomorrow. Just wondering if we can drop her night feeds now, we dream feed her about 12-1am then she will stir between 4-5am - when we dream feed, we feed her in her cot while she is asleep, we don't pick her up or wake her.

Can I drop the 12-1am feed, I suppose really the answer will be to try and drop the feed and see how we get on.

She drinks SMA gold top - my friend suggested putting her on the white top SMA.........what do I do?

What is the ideal age to drop night feeds?

Would like your advice please.

Many thanks

There is no "ideal" age for a baby to sleep through, some do by this age some dont.

night feeds, they still need i think at 3 months still so i wouldnt drop them. Can you jsut see if she wakes up natrually for a feed overnight rather than giving her a feed regardless?
That would give you a better indicator of when shes ready to drop feeds as shes doing it herself.

I also wouldnt change the milk, if shes fine on sma gold then stick with it :)

i would wait and see if she wakes naturally for a feed , just remember to keep the lights down etc.. do she dosnt wake up too much, then hopefully she will go back down again no worries.
i never dream fed my lo gradually the length of time he went for after his 7pm feed lengthened until he was sleeping through :)

just wanted to say your friend is talking nonsense , there is no set age for a baby to sleep through the night for , i think Brody was 4 months or so when he first went from 7pm to 6 am , but some babies sleep through earlier and some much much later :)
there is no need to change her to hungry baby milk if she is doing fine on the gold one atall

my baby still wakes during the night shes 9 months old

Bbay will tell you when to stop night feeds. We always gave our babies a dream feed about 11ish and gradually they just stopped waking up for middle of the night feeds. (A dummy helped too as they wake up out of habit sometimes rather than actually being hungry)

My baby is 4 and half months now and he still doesn't sleep thru.

Like other have said drop the dream feed and see if she wakes naturally :D

It's nonsense that a baby 'should' be sleeping through by 12 weeks. Personally I see nothing wrong with a dreamfeed though...we've done it since birth and not stopping until Ruby is well established on solids (which won't be for a while because we're BLW). If she doesn't want her dreamfeed she refuses it. I would carry on dreamfeeding but make it between 10 and 11, then wait for her to wake up for a feed, if she does. :)

Yep agree with Claire, we always offer Freya a dreamfeed, sometimes she takes it, sometimes she doesn't. She doesn't sleep through anyway, I just get more hours sleep in a row if she takes the dreamfeed!

I will continue offering her it as long as I think she needs it, and she is def nowhere near stopping yet.

did you try her without it ? how did it go ? :)

Well..........we bought SMA(hungrier baby - blue top), and started her on it the day she was 12 weeks old(14 Oct) she has now reduced her bottles during the day. We still dreamfeed her and she now  from 8-9pm till 7-8am :happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance:. The only problem we have is she is drinking the milk too quick during the day and she is suffering from alot of wind, we don't really want to go back to the gold top. I have also be giving her gripewater and infacol.

Any ideas?

Thanx

Are the teats too fast or too slow for her maybe? Both can cause discomfort. If they're too slow they suck so hard they take in air, and if too fast they can gulp down too much...

They are no 2 on Dr Brown bottles, we are abit confused now because we were using these teats when she was on the gold top aswell, we have'nt changed them, is it because the milk is not as thick as gold top.

The milk should be the same thickness...I use C&G hungry milk and it's no thicker or thinner than the normal milk.

It might not be the teats, but things can change quite quickly with babies! My LO would be fine and then suddenly one day refuse bottles until I put a faster teat on.

Also, the hungry milk can be harder for them to digest. It may be that she will get used to the new milk in time...

yeah , i would just carry on with the gripe water if it helps ( i found it better than infacol - but be careful as it only keeps for 2 weeks after opening) and extra burping after / half way through feeds, as she gets older she will likey get less windy anyway.
glad to hear you are getting a good amoutn of sleep now :)

Thankyou for letting me know about the gripe water, didnt know it only lasted two weeks after opening.............and the sleep is fantastic now, I got to bed between 11-12pm and my OH does the dreamfeed between 12-1am and for her to go through till 7-8am is total bliss.

It is getting easier..........

Thankyou

xx
