My daughter has had this for a month of so. It has good and bad days but never completely goes. Feels like sandpaper. Dr said dry ski and gave me double base moisturiser. Hv gave me a thicker diprobase ointment, which makes her looks like I've rubbed chip fat on her cheeks!!! They told me to put it on at least 4 times a day I was doing and again it had good days and bad days but never went.

When we had the really hot weather (uk). It seemed to really do it good (not that lo was out in it all the time). So stopped applying it so much, now it's cooled down its flaring up again. She gets it on her cheeks, wrists and knees. Now has a few spots on her stomach back.

I don't think it irritates her, but it does get get quite bad at times.

Anyone what could be irritating it? what could help?

It does look like eczema, Poppy had it midly but I found out that it was tomatoes that caused it so I stopped giving her them for a few weeks and it cleared up now she only gets them occasionally and doesn't flare up. Also shampoo made it much worse the only one which didn't irritate her was the dentinox cradle cap stuff.

You do have to be very consistant with creams even when it looks like its gone you still have to apply them.Hope it clears up soon and you find the thing that triggers it x

How did you know it was tomatoes? I don't use anything in the bath now unless she gets something stook in her hair I only rinse with water.

Ill keep up with the cream, thanks x

It certainly looks like eczema, and as lovelylaura said, you really do have to be consistant with the treatments. Emolient creams (like Doublebase) can be applied as often as you need, so slop it on three or four times a day. I had eczema until I was about 18, and Doublebase was actually the only emolient that made any difference for me.
You don't mention if you have any topical steroid cream. If not, it might be worth asking the doctor for some. We have 1% hydrocortisone ointment for our daughter's flare-ups and Fusibet cream (a steroid with antibiotic) for when her skin gets really bad.

No I wasn't given any steroid creams, just the doublebase and diprobase x

Francesca had this and we first tried Oilatum lotion and bath emollient and it worked for a while then we had to try something else. We went to the doctors and they prescribed DoubleBase cream which has worked AMAZINGLY! Also, try Earth Friendly Baby Lavender Hair and Body Wash as bath bubbles, this has made Francesca's skin lovely too!

I agree it looks like eczema. We have finally, after over a month, managed to make Charlotte's eczema disappear from her belly. I cut everything out of my diet which I thought it could be and have been extremely careful in weaning her. The doc gave her doublebase which has worked so much better then the previous stuff (called Cetraben). I am now slowly introducing food back into my diet so we can try to pinpoint it. We also have an appointment at the allergy clinic but that was following a worst reaction than eczema.
Have you introduced anything new to her diet in the past month? Or started using a new detergent? Stuff in bath? It may be worth keeping a food diary and writing when symptoms seems worse, you may notice a pattern. I hope you find what is triggering it xxx

I did think maybe detergent, I think I may go back to non bio for her clothes, I did stop using it at about 2 months and this only appeared around 8 month but I do tend to buy whatever's on offer so switch quiet alot.

I don't think I've given her anything food wise she hasn't been eating from when she started weaning, but keeping a diary of it sounds like a good plan, thanks ladies x

Looks like eczema to me, our little man gets it. See your doctor so they can give you some cream and put her washing on an extra rinse cycle. Seems to help our son.

We had a big Mummy and Daddy fail recently - where i washed a couple of her stained babygrows in vanish, left them in a pile ready to put through with our normal persil non-bio Where it has been so hot the babygrows dried overnight and DH didn't realise and put her in one. By that evening her eczema was horrible and we figured what we had done.
DH happened to have a docs appointment for himself the next day and took Charlotte in. The Dr said that would definitely cause a flare up and told us we must be very strict with only washing with non-bio with her skin. This was where she switched us onto the doublebase. So I would try using only non-bios and see if that helps :) xxx

My LO has it too, I've been using diprobase and its worked wonders, I put it on at every nappy change originally when it first happened and now I put it on in the morning and before bed and its seems to keep it away. HV also prescribed oilatum for he bath and it makes his skin so smooth

The diprobase seems to work better for her rather than the doublebase. I have the ointment diprobase not the cream and it's so thick like grease

I have the ointment too, it's so thick and greasy I seem to have it on my hands or ges afterwards :dohh:

Definitely ask for the oilatum, it really does help

cant see the pics right but from disruption look up chicken skin, my sons get that from cows milk.

its like sandpaper too.

Oh maybe it is, I'm definately gonna take her to see hv this week, not keen to go to drs as last time he asked me I'd it bothered me she had it, like I was only there for vain reasons!

I really creamed her up last night and this morning and it had definately calmed it down x

Them rashes can get rather stingy, itchy and scab. I dont see that as vain why would you want your baby rash getting worse. My other half has ezema, and has the leg scabbed off him from itching.
